NASS Acceptance Letters for USNA Class of 2011

Wheelah, my son will be attending session 1. He helped me choose a screen name after a lengthy consult with StrongBad. Thanks for the info.

SpiderMD,
I am not the best swimmer. I am wondering how much swimming will be required at NASS? Do we go sailing or just paddle the zodiac during Sea Trials? Will we see anything in Washington DC? Any chance we may go to Arlington NC?
Thanks potterfan

hey, I’m SpiderMD’s sister, and he is in New York for the week. As far as swimming goes, Spider is a big football player and never swam a day in his life (other than playing around in the pool over the summer) till NASS, and he lived. During NASS, he never got to sail but many others did. It all depends on your schedule. He did get to spend time on board, just looking around, but that was only for those that brought along white soled shoes. From what I heard from him, you will spend a whole day in Washington just sight seeing (Iwo Jima, Arlington NC, etc…). Hope that helped. He’ll be back at the Academy next Saturday and can tell you all about it.

Names’ Mike Knight, Voorhees, NJ. Seacadets, Black Belt Karate, Aviation interests, Tennis, Rifle Team. Just got in today via the waiting list. Any other Session 3’s out there that want to chat before meeting up at the Yard?

I think the people attending session 3 are maybe getting together (?). So I thought it would be a good idea for us attending session 1 to do the same. Email me lost_vivacity@yahoo.com or IM me at Glitterhairdye if you would like to. We can maybe work something out.

Sounds like a good idea Glitterhairdye. I’ll try to IM you if I see you online, my AIM is souperalphabit and email is baconeater2■■■■■■■■■■■■

potterfan1989-
As far as what my sister said, it is all correct. I don’t remember being too challenged in swimming for NASS. And for your other questions… I am not sure how NASS will work this year. We should get a brief on what the schedule is like and I’ll try and let you know what it looks like (or at least as much of it as I can) It is going to be an awesome week and you all should have a blast (especially the ones in my squads) I wouldn’t worry about a thing! Just have fun and meet tons of people!!

Spider,
Thanks for the encouragement. Grew up Air Force, and dont swim very well. I am very excited and eager to attend. I got to speak to a senior from Reno that plays football during our Academy night. I am hoping I might get to see my Great Grandfathers Grave at Arlington, but know I’ll enjoy all the sights.
Thanks again

About the swimming…

I went to last year’s NASS and the cadre there asked every single one of us about our ability to swim and our confidence in swimming. Our squad leader said, “On a 3-scale range, what would you rate yourself? Upper tier, middle tier, or lower tier. I would rate myself a lower-tier swimmer, for example.” I said I was a lower-tier swimmer, so he just took note of it.

When we got to Sea Trials, a handful of other boys and girls were wearing floatation devices in one section—they couldn’t swim. I just walked on with everyone else, though, and did the regular activities (no one will let you drown). Our squad leaders and our platoon leader did the “drowning prevention” section with us, keeping a close eye on the lower-tier swimmers. It’s kinda fun, really. Everything is really a matter of staying calm while you do it (ie, don’t panic if you get dunked accidentally or if you have to dive deep under water).

Haha
if anyone in my squad drowns, I’m a 2 year lifeguard!

Name: Jay

Session 1

lol. I’ll grab the backboard. Just got my cert april 1

Andrew Price
Scottsdale, AZ
Session 2
I’m into track/xc, triathlons, school clubs, and boy scouts. Also going to CGA Session 3. Interested in becoming a helicopter pilot.

There was a kid in my squad at NASS (my swim buddy), who couldn’t swim, so they just made him sit on the edge and do pushups, flutter kicks, etc.

Y’all, session 1 starts in a few days!

Are you in session 1 or 2?

I dropped my son off at work tonight, when I arrived home he had a call on the answering machine saying he was offered a position in Session II. I was hoping someone may have a list of items they need to bring. With only a weekend to make sure he has all his supplies in order, working around his prom.

Thanks for any help.

Writing for my son:

Glad I’m not USNA Admissions guru … altho I’d like to be, at least for one year upcoming. ;-)

He is PUMPED and ready to rocknroll.

HDHOUSE … My daughter is on her 2nd day of Sess 1 and LOVING IT!

Make sure he takes sleeping bag and pillow. My daughters was lost on the flight up there and all they gave her at USNA was a white sheet and blanket:) Also… Here is the must haves from what I understand…

2 Pr Tennis Shoes… One GOOD Pair for Running, One old pair for SEA TRIALS (To toss)
BOTTLE of FEBREEZE or Equiv. … There stuff gets stinky.
Couple of plastic trash bags to transport wet stuff home.
Lots of WHITE SOCKS!
Pair of Flip flops for Shower and swimming day.
Lots of Athletic Shorts and T-Shirts… although NASS issues 5 t’s and Sweats.
An outfit other than athletic for social activities each night (trip to IWO JIMA and Social Mixier)
EXTRA CONTACTS if needed along with all the other toiletries.
And that should sum it up!
AND A CELL PHONE to CALL MOM!
