Nate Silver: Go to a state school (opinion)

There is an argument to be made that Better Than the Ivies would be more accurate.

Then they should stop trying to be a pseudo-Ivy.

Who is the “they,” in this sentence? The public Ivies?

There are no documented public Ivies.

You didn’t answer the question.

And there’s a Wikipedia page, so that’s about as documented as we get nowadays.

Here’s the Ivy League wiki. I don’t see any public universities.

Wow, lots of links, dare I say “documentation,” to the term “public ivy.”

Who is “they”?

You won’t see any private schools on a list of “Public Ivies.”

The schools that I’m sure market themselves, and/or benefit from promulgating the “public Ivy” moniker.

There’s a wiki page for Birds Aren’t Real as well…

Which schools market themselves as a “Public Ivy”?

Lots of other sites using that term besides Wikipedia and the term has been around since 1985.

Which schools don’t? You’ll have a lot of campus tours to audit? :stuck_out_tongue:

Can you find me marketing materials from a university that markets themselves as a “Public Ivy”?

Again, you’ll need to audit their campus tours for potential students.

So, I’ll have to attend those “campus tours for potential students”? No marketing materials available on the web then?

Well, I’ve been on lots of college tours with D21 and D18 in recent years and not one tour guide or campus representative mentioned the term “Public Ivy.”

But if and when you find a university’s marketing themselves with those words, then please let me know.

Well, you found ONE, Miami U. :+1:

The others are from the newspapers of the universities, which are NOT official college marketing material(s).

ETA: So, instead of using the word “schools” in your post, the term “school” is more appropriate

Most of the links above are to each school’s official .edu page, easily accessed on their website.

What did you mean by “a” in your post.

Ya, I’m not buying that, but “thanks for playing” anyways.

Again, you said a school. Mission accomplished. :stuck_out_tongue:
