@doschicos I like the brownie/hot fudge/coffee ice cream idea! And the “family” is my 24 year old S and his wife - I think they don’t mind a shot of “coffee” in the evening!!!
It’s interesting how caffeine affects some more than others. My husband and kids love espresso and have no problem drinking it after dinner.
thanks @emilybee
just got my free Krispy Kreme donut + coffee
Has anyone had coffee in an ice cream cone? This is a concept I’m willing to try.

Why would anyone spoil a cafe glacé with a cone?
I am the anti snob when it comes to coffee, I much prefer Dunkin Donuts coffee, any NY Deli’s coffee, I even like Mcdonald’s coffee. Mostly I drink it with milk in it (at home, Goat Milk), sometimes at home I’ll put a little maple syrup in it. I don’t like most of the “Barista” coffee, i especially don’t like Starbucks.
As far as drinking it, I used to be able to drink coffee at any time of the day or night, and sleep like a baby. Growing up my dad and I would be working on cars, often in winter in an unheated garage, and we drank a lot of coffee (nothing like putting a new clutch in in winter). Now, if I drink caffeinated coffee after about 2pm, I’ll be in trouble that night. Age does some good things, but that isn’t one of them…
For those that like the concept of coffee but find it sour or bitter, you might want to try out cold-brewed coffee. I was playing with it this summer and my D, who complains that my expensive, snobby coffee is sour, really loved the very same beans when cold-brewed.
With cold-brewing you basically do a coarse grind, mix the grounds and water in a French press or similar, and stick in the fridge for around 24 hours. Then use your favorite method to filter (e.g. French press). I don’t have a French press so I just mixed the coffee in a 16oz tumbler then manually poured it through the gold filter that came with my drip machine. I also tried using my pour-over filters but for some reason the cold brew takes a really long time to pass through a paper filter.
Anyway, cold brewing leaves behind a lot of the tart/bitter elements that hot water would otherwise extract, making a smoother and mellower drink. It also has a longer shelf life since it doesn’t rely on the volatile elements that hot brewing extracts.
I think the ice cream cone thingy would be messy to “drink”. I’ll just have a side of coffee with half and half WITH my ice cream cone filled with ice cream!
Brownies are out of the oven - I added a little powdered mocha to them - and I bought a pint of HD coffee ice cream - we’re in business for dessert!
Haagen Dazs is a good choice for the coffee ice cream. What time should I head over, @abasket?
Any leftovers @abasket.
“I’m a total coffee snob. I have to buy single-origin beans roasted within the last few days, then I grind them, pre-soak for 2 minutes, then either pour-over or brew at as close to 203F as I can get. Then I inhale the amazing aroma while pouring into a vacuum-insulated cup and add just a touch of raw sugar and whole cream. Then I need a pastry and 20 minutes of quiet time to sit and enjoy my brew while browsing CC”
Oh my God, that sounds so good!
I am somewhat picky about coffee (I don’t like McDonald’s coffee at all) - but not too picky. However, I really enjoy an amazing cup of joe. I was at Williams Sonoma one day when they were making coffee in a $1,000+ espresso machine. It was wonderful! But I am generally quite pleased with my Timmy’s (Tim Horton’s).
A coworker said that her H bought a fancy espresso machine, and he has perfected the perfect cup of coffee. She can’t drink any other coffee now.
Sorry you missed the party. There ARE leftovers. It was a hit!
