National College Match - 2009-2010

For the CSS Profile are we supposed to enter in only the colleges that we Matched with, or all the colleges that we are applying for including Regular Decision?

hey guys, have you all started working on your supplements yet?

is it REALLY okay to recycle essays? o_o

Nah, I’m trying to get financial document stuff out of the way first…you know if I have to enter in ALL my schools on the CSS Profile? Or can I add in other schools later.

Wow I’m surprised at how many schools don’t even ask for their own supplements…that’s pretty sweett

Yale and MIT don’t want additional supplemental.

w.t.fudge! Stanford… O_O

How so? QB schoalrships are only given to families with 0 ECF. At any decent school, if you have 0 ECF, you wouldn’t have to pay anything anyways…

Okay, this whole EFC thing - what about me? I’m an international.

hey guys, i have a question. i just found out today that i won’t be able to complete my research at a university (long story, but i wont be able to work on my project anymore)…but the problem is, on the QB EC section, i put down that i am currently working on a research project (which is true, i have been working on it)…

should i get an extension and change the info. or is it not that big of a problem, and i’ll just update it on the common app which i’ll forward to the colleges i’m applying to?

Just finished the CSS profile, I think. It was 23 pages long with surprising questions, like the make, model and purchase price of cars. It took four hours to fill out. Originally I only listed one college and then realized when I added colleges the profile added questions in the supplemental question section. But what was pretty interesting was reading which colleges would receive answers to which questions. Of all the schools I input, Pomona did not want any supplemental questions and Harvard wanted 27 extra questions answered! I wonder if there is any correlation between more questions and less generous with aid or vice versa.

Hey

Just a quick question…

does anyone know if you are not chosen as a finalist but want to forward your application to Early Decision[some schools allow~], how are you going to request QuestBridge to send it forward?

Because there is only a section for Regular decision forwarding…and it tells you to check between dec.1st and dec. 15th

I don’t wanna discourage myself…but just be prepared of any kinds of results!

This was my thinking. The point of QB is that it’s supposed to help you get into those schools, since that’s the real hurdle. And some of the schools on the list don’t have fantastic aid packages (Parsons?).

Code H: email Questbridge and ask.

My question:

I think tihs is an amazing opportunitiy, so I am thinking about ranking 8 colleges. I dont know in what order but I have a lot about the following:

MIT, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Columbia, Brown, Upenn, Northwestern or Rice

My stats:

32 ACT
10/450 ranking
working for 2 years
prez of 2 clubs
research project

please help me decide which colleges to rank and which not to.

Paki, I think the ranking should be completely left up to you. Nobody can think for you and we don’t know what you want… so look into those schools a bit more and make a careful decision.

Powerbomb, I’m an international applicant as well, so maybe we’ll ride through this together? :)

I don’t know if I should rank any colleges other than Yale and Princeton. I mean… I’m an International student, and those 2 schools along with Pomona are the only ones that offer match scholarships to QuestBridge applicants. Pomona doesn’t have the major I’m interested in though :(.

Edit - Ok, I found Penn’s QB supplement.

https://medley.isc-seo.upenn.edu/admissions/jsp/fast.do?fastStart=questbridgeSupplement</a></p>

On the space where it says “US or Canadian Social Security No.” it says that Non-Citizens will be assigned an ID number… What?! I thought Penn doesn’t match international citizens?!

So for the supplements, should I wait to see if I’m a finalist or should I fill them out now?

And for the extra forms, some of my ranked colleges require teacher recommendations. Does this mean that I have to get two new recommendations or can I simply use the QuestBridge recommendation forms and fax them in?

Spiritual, it’s best to start them now and save yourself the frantic week after being notified of your finalist status if that is the case.

For the teacher recommendations, I am not sure, but I believe you can recycle them. I don’t see the point though if the colleges receive your QuestBridge application, which should also include the letters, unless they’re solely for QuestBridge’s evaluation. As for your essays, I have read in the FAQ’s (IE: Stanford’s) that you can recycle essays if you wish.

Sooo…my GC’s rec still says not started and she faxed it in on the 30th…should i be requesting an extension?

So two of my Match schools, Princeton and Stanford, require additional teacher recommendations with the Common App. Can I tell my two teachers to use their Questbridge rec and make it fit the format for Common App? From what I’m hearing they could even use the exact same QB rec?? I don’t get what the point of these extra recs are…anyone know?

And for Financial Documents, the cover sheet says to attach the 2008 tax form. It would be okay if I also attached several other documents relating to my family income right? I need to clarify some issues…
Thanks!

CSS/PROFILE complete.
