National College Match - 2009-2010

@Paki: They want 2008 for the deadline, but once the 2009 ones come out they want you to send those ASAP too.

And thanks Tom!

PurpleTurtle, if your school does not provide a weighted GPA you are to figure it out using the table given under FAQ, The QuestBridge application, number 12 here on the QB site: [National College Match Program: FAQ](http://www.questbridge.org/students/faqs.html)

I tried pasting in the table here, but the formatting doesn’t come through.

If you have Excel or some other spreadsheet program on your computer it may be easiest to paste the grades, weights given the grades by the QB table, and class units into the spreadsheet, and then calculate the unweighted GPA. My son isn’t applying to college this year, but we just figured out his using this method to see what his weighted GPA would be. So, if you have any further questions about using Excel to do this, ask away!

Thanks, 2blue! Finally figured it out. (The weighted GPA’s system seems to be a bit strange – the less “regular” classes I take as opposed to college [“honors”] classes I’m taking anyway, the higher my GPA goes?)

The weighted GPA gives you more credit for taking the honors classes, which is nice. My son’s high school doesn’t weight grades either. Kids can take all regular classes, get As because they are so easy, and have a higher class rank than someone who is taking the toughest classes they can but getting a few A-'s or Bs.

Ah, that makes sense. For my charter school, taking college classes is either making it or breaking it: college units x 3 = high school credits, using the same 4.0 scale, so one college Spanish class counts for more GPA than a year-long high school chem course. Some of us have actually tried – unsuccessfully – to lobby for GPA weighing.

OH BOY. BIG PROBLEM - When I was first creating accounts on QB, I accidentally made two, and found out today just now that one of my teacher’s recommendation is “COMPLETED” on the account that I’m no longer using. and “NOT STARTED” on the account that I AM using. Do you think QB will be able to merge the two accounts? Or is there a way for my teacher to transfer his recommendation from one account to another? Maybe I can do something with the QB ID number that they give me?

@ powerbomb: I imagine that they should be able to reassign the paperwork, if you faxed it. I don’t know if that’s possible if it was done online. I suppose you could call QB on Monday and see what they can do.

On that same note: anyone else notice more than 48 hour processing times for faxes? One of mine took three days to be noted as “Completed,” and even that only after I called QB and had them verify it manually.

@PT/ Powerbomb: I don’t know how helpful calling QB will be. I called twice on Thursday and again twice on Friday at different times and both times it went to the answering machine.

Funny, worked for me.

Does anyone know if we can fax transcripts/test scores on Tuesday? I just saw the 48 hours and I had to fix a few things on my transcript and we have Monday off. Christ!

I still have one teacher rec that says “not started” and my counselor hasn’t finished - and hasn’t faxed my transcript or test scores yet! AUGH! If I can’t do QuestBridge because of them, I’m going to be SO EFFING ANGRY!

@PT: What # did you use/ what time did you call? I would REALLY appreciate it if you could tell me!

Also, where on the website does it show what has been faxed already? At the bottom?

@Tom: Yup right at the bottom. They show up in a tan colored chart/ box thing

Ds just submitted his app. All his recs and paper work are in. Hallelujah!!!

Good luck to everyone.

My counselor sent in her rec wednesday and put my school’s cover sheet on top of the QB one, and it hasn’t been processed. Think I should have her fax it again monday?

Wow how do you have school on Monday? It’s a holiday

What holiday is that??
And there’s nothing indicating my counselor has faxed anything…she has until Wednesday right??

I don’t have another holiday until Columbus Day on the 12th I think.
:(
