Oh, wow. That’s crazy. I know there been discussion of school profiles somewhere out in the threads. His school sounds like a poster child of both how not to figure unweighted GPA and how not set the student’s accomplishments in context.

I know. But it’s too late to fix it for ds, so, after the application season is over, I’ll broach it with the GC and principal to help other kids down the road, including my freshman son. This GC was new last year, and she’s actually great, having redone the profile so that it is MUCH better than two years ago.

Wait so should we use the QB methodology? Because at my school i have a GPA of 3.33, while on QB i have a GPA of 3.5 :/

So weird. What should i do?

For the application question:
“How many people live in your current household (including yourself)?”

do I count siblings who live at college half the year?

@ksea: I’m including my sister even though she’s at BU right now. Just because she’s gone doesn’t mean my mom doesn’t support her financially etc. And she’ll also be coming home for the summers etc

How are you guys doing on your essays? I’ve got 2/3 written…kind of. I recently found out one of the ones I wrote for 800 word limit actually has a 500 word limit. Yikes.

@NY: Just have to edit my two 500 word ones and i should be ok. Swear to god though i’m gonna be turning this in on like Tuesday XD

And that sucks that you have to take out 300 words…

You have no idea. That essay tells one of my favorite stories, too. I don’t know how I can take 3/8ths of it out.

@NY: Maybe it can be your personal statement? Unless you’ve already done that, in which case i can only wish you best of luck trying to shorten it XD

I’m trying to read/revise my autobiography right now…so difficult! And my short answers need to be changed…did you guys use lists/fragments for those? 30 words isn’t a lot of space…

Thanks, question two…

Do we need to have ACT/Collegeboard send test scores by the 30th to the colleges?

@tom:

I feel like a list of a bunch of things doesn’t actually tell them anything. Like if for what music do you like you write something like “My favorite artists are Beyonce, Greenday, etc etc” then all they know about you is that you listen to frkn Beyonce, et al.

ya dig?

@ksea:

Nope. Only to QB, though i’ve heard that some people have done that. In my opinion, you shouldn’t count you chicks before they hatch. After you turn in your app just start working on the stuff for the colleges you plan to rank. If you become a finalist on the 23rd, then congratz! Send the scores out then.

If you don’t become a finalist, then don’t waste your $ on schools that you wouldn’t have applied to without QB. Only send scores to the schools that you’re willing to apply to without QB.

That’s what I’m doing anyways…don’t think anyone can convince me to do otherwise.

Cool. Can anyone answer my previous question?

Soo can anyone answer my previous question too?

About using the QB GPA calculator…

^ I think if your school transcript says the GPA, you should just stick with that. Otherwise, use the QB method, only if your school transcript does not mention GPA.

I’m quite new to this thread, so first off, hello everyone =D

I almost have my QB application/essays done, but I’ve been wondering if QB is truly the best way to go. My main reason for applying QB is to apply to Stanford (the other non-bindings don’t matter as much). I’ve always taken that applying to Stanford via QB is better than if I applied SCEA. Is that actually true? (I went to one of their “Exploring College Options” sessions, where the Stanford counselor said they were thinking of discontinuing QB in the future – it says it costs them too much. Would this affect application chances?)

On another note, I’m still confused about whether I should put a 4.0 GPA as my weighted GPA (my school just gives unweighted GPA’s).

Thanks, third question…
For parent income, do they want AGI or gross?

@ksea
the site says AGI.

will the CSS profile information ask for my 2008 tax record or 2009??? i am assuming 2008 because that it is due to partner colleges on Nov 2 if we are finalist.
