National College Match - 2009-2010

QuestBridge is pretty fast right now if any of you are ready to submit your apps tonight.

Wait…is the deadline 10/1 3pm EST? I thought it was 10/2 3am EST… Uh oh…

The first three sections must be completed by September 30, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

So 3AM EST not pm

Things are getting crazy at our house, too. The thing is, daughter is an artist, applying to Parsons, and her essays are …well, she has a very poetic visceral writing style, not at all what CC people are probably used to. It sort of makes me crazy, reading it is like reading a poem out loud. Also, her short answers? She’s very focused on meditation and Buddhism and being in the “now”, and her answers make her sound …err, like a complete stoner. laugh

But the writing is amazing, it’s just very raw. She doesn’t talk to me much about what it was like in her old household, so reading her writing about living in constant abuse and fear is very intense.

4:30 AM. Writing 4 page AP Gov and politics Paper. Yet to edit both 500 word essays. Yet to sleep. Yet to figure out whether my GC and her secretary will be in school today. Wanting to skip school…badly.

On the bright side, both teachers have completed their recs. Now just waiting for GC…she better be in school…

P.S. Did they extend the College Match Ranking/ Agreements?
Cause i thought it said October 8th before…it now says 12th…

Ju_liaa: Two of my daughter’s recommenders were out of school today because of Yom Kippur, and one of those hasn’t started the rec at all. We’re even more worried about the GC, because they’re still putting her transcript together. (They haven’t been including her college classes taken outside of school, which we need for Questbridge.)

Omg another questions…someone PLEASE answer.

Is it just supposed to be Transcript and School Profile that say they’ve been faxed in at the bottom? Like is there a comprehensive list of stuff that you’re supposed to have in anywhere?

^Yea, it’s only supposed to say 2 things: School Profile and Transcript.
Unfortunately, my counselor faxed the School Profile twice…for some reason. I emailed QB, no response yet. You guys think this is OK?

I’ve been editing my essays too. However, I don’t know what to change…

@tom: Wow we’re in the exact same situation. Dunno what to do about the essays and GC faxed my report twice >.<

I got a response on my phone from QB that i should be able to delete one of them on my locker…but i can’t because there’s no delete button. I’ve been trying to get in contact with for days about it.

^Yea…I can view/delete the transcripts/test scores…but can’t do anything with the School Profile.

Wait guys…just to confirm, what kind and how many SAT II’s do we need for determining Finalist status? I have a Math IIC and World History currently. Taking 2 science SAT II’s for individual schools in October. I already have a science SAT II…but it’s not that great of a score, so I just wanted to make sure that my current two SAT II’s are fine for Finalist status. Thanks!

Sorry for the third post, but now that I think about it, I don’t think faxing the School Profile twice matters much. Since they already received both faxes, there’s nothing we can do. So I don’t think it matters, as long as they received a copy.

Yes, we got our son’s mailed score reports out of a drawer, photocopied the original reports (so that we would have a piece of paper that didn’t have folds across it, to feed into a fax machine) and faxed them ourselves with the QuestBridge cover sheet to QuestBridge. Somewhere in the instructions, QuestBridge tells you that is okay, I’m sure.

Okay I have a question concerning household income now…
In past years (2007, 2006, etc.) my household income was about $11000. (my dad is retired, my mom does not work)

However, 2008 is a special case. My household income increased to more than 40K. This was due to some IRA distribution thing (no idea what it is…) which my parents used to pay off something else, so my 2009 income is back to what it was before. What should I report on the Questbridge application? The 40K from 2008? Or could I report my 2007 income. So confusing =[

You have to use the 2008 income. Do you have room in the “additional information” section to explain this?

^Yes I do. And I use Adjusted gross income right?
I just want to make sure that I can fax/mail them the 1040A for both 2008, 2007, and 2006, along with other documents, to explain this situation. (I can do so by November 2nd, right?)

I’m pretty sure it asks for AGI, sorry it seems like so long ago, lol. I would just state in the additional information what you had said, and say you have past tax forms to support this information and your estimation of 2009 taxes will be $x. I’m not sure about faxing in the older ones unless asked for though. I would wait till you get your finalist notification and then immediately e-mail them to ask if they need those as well.

Yea, the problem is, the AGI is calculated after subtracting a certain amount from the total income. I can’t do that on the Questbridge application. My total income on the QB app is the sum of 3 parts (social security, pensions, interests and dividends). So the amount is slightly different from my 2008 AGI. Would this be fine?

Sorry tomejonesistheman, I have no idea about that. Maybe another parent here will be able to help you. Try calling them and e-mailing ASAP.
