The best donut place in our town is across the street from my gym. Should I go before or after? Decisions, decisions!
I’m a bit of a donut snob. I will go at lengths to NOT have a chain donut (but if that’s the only option…) - we have a few really great bakeries here that fabulous donuts. Don’t know if I met a donut I didn’t like!
My favorites are Persian - like a yeast donut with a cinnamon swirl inside - then frosted with vanilla and topped with finely chopped nuts. I also favor long johns with cream and chocolate frosting. Or a really good chocolate cake donut with chocolate frosting. And sure, add an apple fritter to the top favs.
@RandyErika Years ago, we stayed at a time share near Disney. Every night, we stopped at Krispy Kreme after a day at the park for coffee and warm, glazed donuts. I guess we justified all the walking at the parks! Our area doesn’t have Krispy Kreme, so no more temptation. Many Dunkin Donuts but their donuts are so-so.
I haven’t had a donut since…yesterday! I miss the independent donut shops in Dallas. There was one about every mile, it seemed. We all had our favorites. There are a couple of good non-chain places here in the Nashville area, but not close to me (probably fortunately).
Best donuts in our area some from a place that serves Thai during the week and donuts on the weekends…
We have local chains that are pretty good. I wonder if Top Pot has any specials tomorrow…
Ha! Have to drop Happydad at his workplace then spend the day running errands before picking him up to go to the theater. I guess I will just add a donut stop (or two) to that list of errands.
There’s a great little place nearby with raised as well as cake doughnuts. It’s in the same tiny mall as the great little bagel place. Casually mentioned to DH tonight how I read about Donut Day - in hopes that he will run out tomorrow morning to pick some up. He did go looking for pie on Pi Day!
No! We’re in Michigan right now and planned to go to the Franklin Cider Mill today, but I guess we’ll postpone to avoid the donut crowd that will most surely swell due to the “holiday.” Hot sugar cinnamon-dusted cider donuts with a cup of cold fresh-pressed cider are the best, but I can do without sugar-crazed crowds.
^^^Sounds delicious - you should still go!!!
I stopped this morning and picked up a dozen from the bakery down the street to bring to work. Decorated the box and set it in the kitchen. I’m someone who believes in cutting the donuts in halves/thirds/quarters/whatever so you can enjoy more than one flavor! My plate is sporting a section of persian, fritter, and a cherry glazed. I’ll have to fit in a piece of a chocolate cake sometime later.
The bakery was quite busy this morning!
I went to college in the Cradle of Krispy Kreme - seriously, the first Krispy Kreme doughnut shop opened there, way before franchising ruined the brand! Some of my fondest college memories center on cruising down to the Krispy Kreme store at 2:00 AM to watch the doughnuts slide into the hot grease. And the taste of those freshly made, piping hot doughnuts —!
To this day, their chocolate covered creme-filled doughnut is my favorite. No wonder I have diabetes…
We’ve already had office donuts twice this week, but I figured someone would come through for today. I was right- just one department over were some Krispy Kremes. I started with one and went back for one more. Didn’t need them.
Just in case some of you desire a “healthy” donut, here are some low fat, high protein donuts. This company went on Shark Tank and was offered money by the Sharks. They’re a local company. No affiliation, of course.
Hope you ate an apple fritter today, @sushiritto. It’s not too late if you haven’t.
Those baked donuts don’t look too appealing.
If anyone missed doughnuts (DH didn’t take the hint), it’s also National Chocolate Ice Cream Day.
I tried one sans icing, just plain. It was OK. I’m sure a true donut aficionado would say they’re awful.
Nope, no donuts for me. Food is fuel. Bad fuel makes the car run poorly.
It’s a gorgeous day here! Such a beautiful day and I went to a gourmet donut shop, locally owned but sounds like a duck donut and got 6 exquisite donuts!
While out running errands, I stopped by Rebel Donut–a locally owned shop-- and bought myself a doughnut, but not their signature Breaking Bad/Blue Meth variety.
There was dad in line behind me buying his 3 year old son his very first doughnut ever. Talk about one excited kid!
And that kid will be a donut addict for life!
I got a chocolate glazed. It was delicious!
I could eat donuts every day, but I don’t!
