Hi, I just got a letter from WUSTL yesterday so I know the time where I have to start college visits and such are coming up and I wanted to know what National Honors Society for a high school is and if it would help me at all when I apply to colleges. I got another letter along with my WUSTL letter yesterday saying I could apply for the organization.
Do you mean your own high school’s NHS (“Honor”, not “Honors”, if that’s the case)? Membership won’t mean much for your college applications, especially not at highly selective schools like WUSTL, where every applicant will qualify for membership, but it’s an decent resume item. If you’re referring to some outside third-party organization that is asking you to pay money to join–stay away. They’re all worthless scams.
NHS is only notable if youre the president of your local chapter, but only to a small extent at that. It should be safe to assume that most US applicants for schools like WUSTL will at least be members of NHS if not mostly in main leadership positions.
