I am a junior in High School and I am looking into these combined programs. Today I found out that I qualified as one of 50,000 National Merit Finalists so I will at least get a commended letter but I could be a semifinalist in September 2006. The National Merit thing sent me a letter that said they will send my information to 2 colleges of my choice. I live in florida so I am thinking about the B.A./MD at USF, UF and maybe Miami. should I send the letter to these colleges? Does this really do anything or is is somethign everyone applying to these programs gets?

Yeah sure. But it really does not mean much.

Most of the people applying to accelerated programs get those commended letters or miss only by a few points. It really does not mean much unless you get to be a finalist.

Actually, during the UMDNJ interview, my interviewer asked me if I was a National Merit Scholar. Then he asked specifically if I was a finalist or commended.

Maybe he was at a loss of words and was trying to fill in a question while he prepared mentally for his next more important question. Or this could have been one of those subtle ways in which he was trying to gain important academic information which was not recorded on my application.

wow thats a crappy question because the cutoffs vary drastically between differenet states.

hey bro i think a lot of the people who apply 2 these progs. have that more specifically the schools ur looking at…cuz im going to the USF prog. and im pretty sure the majority are commended scholars. but hey whatever floats your boat
