<p>If my essay approaches 700 words, would that be deemed as too long given the instructions that ask for about 500 words? I just started it today and it’s due on the 12th. The problem is that there’s just many topics that they’re asking for me to cover. If any people who are not competing this year are willing to read and critique it (especially previous Finalists), I’d be willing to send it by pm.</p>
<p>I probably wouldn’t go over 600 words for this. I’ve heard it’s mainly a formality–that grades, transcript, and filling out your paperwork basically makes you a Finalist. Plus, you have to (annoyingly) fit it onto a small page, so that becomes harder the longer you make it. </p>
