<p>I know this sounds stupid, but I really wonder if there is a downside to the national merit scholarship, and/or in choosing the two schools to notify early, etc. Is there a limitation or restriction placed upon winners? Can you still apply to all scholarships/schools? I would appreciate serious responses from anyone who saw a negative.

<p>My daughter never sent back the early notification card and I don’t think it made any difference. She really had no idea which school she would end up going to. She applied to 6 schools and was admitted to all of them. Only when she was pretty sure where she wanted to go did she send NM information about the school (they would not release a corporate award without the notification).</p>
<p>There is no downside. You can still update apps to all the schools with NMF info.</p>
