My nephew in law will be matching this year, I believe. He’s a strong candidate and very well-liked so hoping for good news on niece’s Bday which is match day.
oh my! Just seeing this thread made me queasy all over again!! The Monday (today) before they find out if they matched and then Friday the big reveal. After all the years of undergrad, all the prerequisites, the volunteering, the research, the med school application and the ensuing interviews, the travel to all the interviews…the thousands and thousands $$$ to be on the interview trail for residency interviews…the thousands in residency apps, the nightmare travel in the dead of winter with more research, the travel and cost for STEP 2 and more ECs…
And then it all comes down to one day. Finding out where your kiddo will be for a few more years, the new apt search, the packing and moving.
After son was done I just wanted to sleep for a year. Son got what he wanted, first choice, and is admittedly having a wonderful time. No sleep, tons of work and a whole bunch of new friends. He does say it isn’t work if you love what you do. For the first time, in a long time, he is loving his choices with no regrets.
I as his mama couldn’t be more pleased. So happy.
My very, very best wishes for this Friday. Waiting can be so exhausting. So many hoops they have gone through and not that it will end but this is truly a beginning.
It was just a year ago that H and I traveled from the West coast to the East coast for D’s
match day. Boston had a major snowstorm and the only flight we could get was three extra days
before than we wanted and we had to buy first class, last two tickets available.
I would not have missed it for anything. D wanted us there and we wanted to be there.
It is an exciting and heart wrenching day as you celebrate for you kid and watch some other kids
dissolve into tears. In the end they all are thrilled that they match and adjustment happen.
Match Day was more important to me than attending graduation.
The process is so incredibly stressful.
Good luck to each of your D’s and S’s!
You will be amazed at how wonderful the world looks with just the opening
of an envelope.

^^^ Same here! Just as med students/families are holding their breath, residency programs are as well to know that their choices will likely pan out well too! Our residency director is doing a happy dance!
D2 matched at an excellent program. She gets to stay in the West (which was important to her) and will only be a short (100 minute) direct flight away from here. The city is also a good choice for her BF, who will be relocating with her. Apparently he had already applied for jobs in her new city ahead of the actual Match results.
