national society of high school scholars?

Real or Fake? They are charge $60 to join, but there are some other stuff that charge money that are totally legit. So real or fake?

Fake, I believe. We never responded to this or other similar offers. I don’t think they would be given any weight on college applications.

Or maybe real but worthless.

Son is a freshman in college, and just got his invite to join. A little late, guys. Not joining, but may have done it if invited a couple of years ago to sweet his college apps.

My son just got an invitation to join the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. We are trying to decide whether it is worthwhile. He was also invited to join the honors fraternity on his campus, which he did. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to throw those things on a resume when applying for summer jobs or internships.

He got one for the HS society but the GC told me while it wouldn’t hurt to join it, it also probably wouldn’t help, so he didn’t bother to join.

Wesley: it is real legit org, but nearly worthless to 99% of the members. I guess the Offices and scholarship winners get something out of it, however.

Montegut…it would NOT have sweetened your kiddo’s college aps. Good that you didn’t bother.

I suggest framing the letter. It’s a lot cheaper than paying the $60.

When my son was in high school and we were touring colleges, he asked the admissions officers if membership in this organization was helpful to gain admittance and or/scholarships. Everyone said “no.” They did give weight, however to membership in the NHS - National Honor Society where students are selected according to national standards: scholarship, leadership, service and character. So, save the $60 and paste the letter in your scrapbook.
