National Society of High School Scholars?

I just got a postcard saying that I was nominated because of my "academic achievement" . You know, the whole "this is such a great and prestigious honor" shtick. Does anyone have any detailed information about it? (Preferably from someone that's in it). Or what are its advantages, etc. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm in it. It did absolutely nothing for me. I paid $30 to join (or maybe it was $35...don't remember) and then paid a little extra for a T-Shirt. That's all. I didn't even put it in my college apps.

So its just a name brand thing?

^ Mouse, personally not something I would recommend. However to each his/her own. See thread below of the input of others.

I've read some info about it on a few sites. Seems like a load of crap to me. I appreciate your guys' input though.

I've gotten that same postcard many times myself and visited their website. There really is no advantage to being a member as far as I can tell, but as learninginprog said, to each his own.

Just a waste of money.

I got a letter about that in the mail about 2 months ago. I didn't pay the $60 because I heard at my school that it is a SCAM. Now I have absolutely no proof, but the more I looked into it I really saw no benefit. Plus a lot of people at my school that got into it don't even qualify for our NHS, so I didn't think it was worth it if the organization doesn't have a more selective qualifications.

Good luck kfinck10 with your story! I want the details on this.

@ohsnapitskira: You only had to pay $30-35? Have you gotten the t-shirt?
