Fortunately we are fans of their frozen chocolate croissants, so we’re safe!
Thanks–have half a bag right here. Fortunately our 4 yr old grandson said, “I eat peas at school but I don’t
like them”. Glad no one pushed h I’m to eat them. H and I both had a serving…
I’ve never bought frozen veggies from TJs and they still have no HI stores, so safe here too.
Who eats frozen veggies without cooking them? And, since cooking kills listeria, where’s the risk?
Tear open bag, drop veggies in boiling water - problem solved. Am I missing something?
When my S was little, he liked frozen peas. Frozen.
Here you go, dodgersmom: http://www.thekitchn.com/quick-tip-use-frozen-peas-in-p-147418
There are other similar recipes. We don’t make any of them.
I put frozen peas in summer pasta salads sometimes and often in soup. They don’t really cook, just defrost.
----> " Out of an abundance of caution, all products from this supplier have been removed from store shelves."
Thanks for the pasta recipe, @QuantMech - that’s actually pretty clever!
And no, I won’t use that suggestion for a potluck anytime soon . . .
THIS IS JUST NOT TRADER JOES. This is nation wide under many, many brands including Wal Mart and Costco… Both frozen vegetables and fruits.
Fruit especially dangerous as you do not cook it.
This is huge.
In the middle of summer, popping frozen peas or corn can be a delightful (and, aside from moments like this one, healthy) way to cool down. And not cooking frozen fruit is pretty widespread.
But this is actually part of a much, much huger recall than just Trader Joe’s—here’s the FDA’s list of brands recalled: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm498841.htm
ETA: @sax beat me to it!
Well I have been switching to fresh fruits and veggies recently–guess my timing is good. We used to always have some frozen veggies in the freezer and sometimes I’d use frozen peas in dishes. The other veggies I’d always cook tho.
Wow. This is a huge list.
LOL. Telling how deficient current processes are. Pretty unrealistic to think even 1% of the potentially contaminated products would be identified…
I know that a lot of people on this forum are TJ’s fans. I just got an e-mail regarding some of their popular frozen veggies.
Frozen fruits are often used in smoothies–wonder how this will affect Jamba Juice & similar smoothie-makers. UGH!
I give my dogs frozen peas and carrots but I do steam them first and the keep in Tupperware in the frig to add to their food. My brand not on the list anyway.
Most frozen veggies are inedible if thawed and used raw, so I use those for cooking only. Not going to throw anything out. Agree that peas and fruit are the ones that likely will be used without cooking, but I prefer them fresh anyway… So my household is safe.
Today I got a robo call from Costco telling me that yes, I have bought some of those bad veggies. Just a bit ago I got an e-mail from BJ’s saying I bought some from them as well. Gee whiz! Will do a freezer hunt tomorrow!
