nature of Introduction to Political Theory with Prof. Topper

Last time I checked ratemyprofessors.com, I read that Prof. Topper is a hard grader, yet I’m curious as to how the class is overall. For one thing, I don’t know what “Political Theory” specifically entails—is political theory different from political analysis? Is it interesting? Is Pol Sci 31A a class to avoid GPA-wise? Or is the material engaging/fun enough to make up for the hard grading? Is it easy to get an A in this course? I’m asking all this because I have enrolled in the class without the foggiest idea of what the class is about, and I am actually a Bio Sci major.

Much obliged,
WP

are you a poli sci major?

political theory i would assume covers theoretical aspect of poli sci, covering the works of hobbes, locke, etc.

you can probably find a quick description of the class in the uc irvine general catalog which is available online in pdf form.

i’m a poli sci major and i’ve avoided 31a; i’ve taken 21a, 41a, 51a, 61a, and 71a; i doubt 31a is that bad though.
