Honestly - West Point is overbooked this year. By all accounts from a Regional Commanding Admissions officer.
Maj Belmont himself said - all appointees need to keep their nose clean. If you get a speeding ticket, arrested or another infraction with the law they can and may recind your appointment because it would cause them to chase a legal waiver for you. If you fail a course - they can and may recind an appointment.
IF You fail to respond by May 1st - they can and may recind your appointment. In prior years, the Regional Commanders would personally call appointees who have not responded - this year they may not call but simply send a thanks but no thanks letter.
Legal waivers, late medical waivers - may not be available this year. If you were offered an appointment in Dec but haven’t accepted it by April and you need a legal/medical waiver - admission may be scratching their head.

ALL appointments are conditional until R-day/I-day.
