Naval Academy STEM program

My daughter is 8th grade now, she wants to apply the Naval Academy Stem Program 2015, she wants to find out does the Stem program requires or mandatory the college entry test score (ACT, SAT or PSAT).

I don’t recall that it does from the application a few years back… pretty simple, online application… I think you can enter the scores there if you have them, but at least back then, they were not mandatory. Go check the current application just to be sure incase things have changed. It is a great program.

Thanks for your information. I think it is too late to take those test now since they need few months to process the score. But I still give it a try…

Our daughter attended Summer STEM a couple of years ago and very much enjoyed it. She did not have any ACT, SAT, or PSAT scores. She used what she had - her MAP scores with a brief explanation of how they compared nationally. Great program - here’s a link for those who might be interested: http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/Programs/STEM/

Can someone chance for this program?
I recently attended a STEM Jamboree at the United States Naval Academy and am eager to be on the campus again in anyway possible, along with discovering more about different scientific disciplines.

I am a freshman in high school
My PSAT scores were 70 in critical reading, 70 in writing, and 55 in math
I although my school does not calculate class rank, I am around 15th in my 67 person class.
My unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale is a 3.9.
I have participated in Varsity cross-country and indoor track.
I have participated in science club, Science Olympiad, HOSA, Multicultural club, class council, student government, marching band, indoor drumline, and am a Life Scout in BSA.
Thank you.

I don’t think anyone can give you an accurate answer. Both my kid and one of our best friend’s kids had similar stats and were both turned down for Summer STEM. A year later my kid was accepted to Summer Seminar with identical stats, and now she has an nomination and a decent shot at an appointment. The point is that there are thousands of kids applying and it has gotten very popular which means they turn down tons of deserving applicants every year.

Do your best on the application and realize that if you don’t get in it was not a reflection on you and that it doesn’t even mean anything for your future chances there.

Good luck

The program seeks geographic diversity, so if you live near the Naval Academy, you might be less likely to be selected.

My daughter just received acceptance letter from the Naval summer stem program today. Thank you for your information.
