Top honors went to Naveen Rasheed, basketball star at Monte Vista High School.

“It’s rare when you get a player who takes the program to another level,” said Monte Vista basketball coach Ron Hirschman when introducing Rasheed. “She has athletic ability second to none.”

He credited her with bringing the Lady Mustangs to the state finals, and said she has named the East Bay Athletic League’s Most Valuable Player for the last three years.

“What she does off the floor is even more amazing,” he added, noting that she is a phenomenal student with many universities knocking on her door. Rasheed will be playing basketball next year at Princeton.

“I would pay to watch her play,” he continued. “She is the reason we won 29 games this year. It was a rare opportunity to have an athlete of this level.”

Rasheed will be the first athlete at Monte Vista High School to have her number retired, No. 24.
