One of the schools my child applied to usually sends out acceptances at the end of April and gives you 1 week to accept. I read suggestions to contact the schools I’m waiting on to request an earlier decision and/or request an extension to respond to the first school.
Do you know if any of the schools listed below will provide an earlier decision in this situation?
Georgetown, Cornell, Columbia, Notre Dame, Brown, Duke, UPenn, Northwestern, UChicago, George Washington, NYU
They will not. You may need to make a commitment to one school before all decisions are made. If accepted by a school later, you can uncommit at the first school, although you will undoubtedly lose the deposit
If your student is waitlisted at those other schools, they should deposit at their current first choice before the deadline. If they come off the waitlist later, it’s okay to unenroll at the first school and enroll in the new one. It happens all the time. You will likely lose your deposit, though.
I agree with ski that early decisions won’t happen. IME many schools will grant transfers an extension for the enrollment decision date….sometimes just a week, sometimes a month.
