Navy-Army Game : The Important Stuff

Okay, elections are on Tuesday and I am sure that every voter here has made his or her decision based on the wonderful insight of the experts who post here . . .

Now on to the important stuff.

Can any Philadelphia locals recommend an after-game restaurant? Perhaps a place that takes reservations? Is walking from the stadium recommended or possbile to a local restaurant?

Any other advice other than dress to stay warm.

[After reading this, I thought I should clarify for those who are new to these threads that the first paragraph, given that such sentiments do not come across the internet very well, should have some sort of face attached to it that conveys sarcasm? disdain for those who continue to try and politicize these threads? use of the term “expert” very loosely, as in a substitute for the word “b__bs” [figured that word might be censored somehow?]

Villa di Roma on 8th between Christian and Montrose in South Phila (which is rebounding.) Great house Chianti and a great Villa salad for two. Ask the waitress for suggestions. The menu is up on a blackboard and be sharp - they can be tough on dimwits.

Villa takes CASH ONLY and the bar and bartenders are just what you need to experience Philadelphia. The restaurant is a local best kept secret and not expensive. Lots of neighborhood families eat there. You’ll feel like a South Philly Eyetalian by the time you’re done.

Definitely stop by DiBruno Brothers’ deli next door (another beloved local shop.)

I think you can take the subway to Passyunk (pronounced Pashunk) and walk a few blocks but I would suggest getting a cab.

Don’t try a Philly cheese steak at Gino’s or Pat’s. Uck! You can get much better cheese steaks at almost any corner restaurant that makes hoagies, burgers, etc.

Good luck wherever you go.

Now here’s a man who’s got his priorities straight! :D

Sadly, the only restaurant in Philly I’ve ever eaten in was in some Chinese joint near Independance Hall back in 1973 or so, so I have no advice to offer. :(

dining guide here and don’t forget Philly has an active BYO market.

You can also check out the places that participate in restaurant week tho it won’t be in affect during the time you are in Philly.

I should correct Bill in one small detail. It’s the “Army-Navy Game”.

The winner, as a matter of etiquette, always allows the loser to be listed first. :D

Alternatively, “We save the best for last!” :D

And, after Navy destroyed AF (and AF destroyed Army), I must root for Army, even if an Army win still leaves the cup in that shark infested Academy in Maryland! Sadly (but deservedly), it looks like the trophy won’y be moving anytime soon. :(

^^^^^  :)

About 13 years ago I lived near the corner of 8th and Catherine, a block or so from where sealion is talking about. Lot’s of good little authentic italian restaurants around that area. I haven’t been there for a while so I can’t give you any specifics.

And for the record, I liked Gino’s, but it’s been a long time.

Would this game be an opportunity for some of us to meet/celebrate/cry? Perhaps we can pick a spot for half-time? Or breakfast? Or coffee? Or a bar at one of the hotels where half of us can drown our sorrows?

If Notre Dame beats AF this weekend and Army next weekend, because they also beat Navy, do they get the CIC? ;)

^^^^^
Don’t hold your breath!

Sure! Provided Notre Dame grads all commit to five years of service upon graduation! ;)

Let them try and take it.

We’re the ones with the weapons. :D

LOL!!! I’m game!

We will be heading down to phili on Friday- so how about a pre-game pep rally!!!

I’ll be there on Friday also. I’m flying in with my son (hubby heard too many complaints about the cold last year, so he’s staying home with the animals).

Be there on Fri. Can’t say I would go out of my way to meet [not to be mean or anything], but if a convenient time and place can be found, I’m game [so to speak].

count me in! Will be down Fri evening as well!

“Can’t say I would go out of my way to meet [not to be mean or anything]”

LOL Hey Navy 2010, when you get there, find Bill & give him a grinch pinch for me. Somebody give that man a scotch! :D

^^^^^ you betcha!

Hey Bill, u copy that?
