Navy blue formal gown - shoe question

We don’t have a picture of your exact dress. If the dress has a Grecian/Roman look, (which is what I’m imagining) then I like a flat metallic sandal, and probably bracelets, earrings, and an updo hairstyle that all keep the theme.

Of course what sounds good in theory needs to also work when one looks in the mirror. Not always the case for me.

I was looking for a better example, from a painting but the first statue is what I imagine looking at the dresses you showed, especially the first one.

Speaking of dress length, I’ve noticed, looking at red carpet shots and the like, that long dresses and dress pants seem to be not just sweeping the floor these days, but even longer, so that the hem buckles on the ground. It’s a look that I find particularly bizarre with pants.

I like these in Platinum Noir or even better, Pyrite Nocturn:

I agree with you @Consolation, and it makes for a very dirty hem at the end of the night. I’d feel bad about ruining my gown, but most of those are on loan anyway and likely go into the designer’s giveaway pile.

I would not wear a wedge with a formal gown - just doesn’t work. Usually a chunky heel is comfortable enough - the silver chunky heel sandal posted by the OP is nice.

Okay - I went out to Nordstrom’s today. They had the dress, so with the help of the shoe department - I chose these:

Those shoes are stunning and timeless. You will get plenty of other opportunities to wear them.

But back at post #1 you said you weren’t paying $750 and then you paid $900?

Pretty spectacular… hope they are comfortable also

Beautiful. enjoy!

Lovely! Those two tax cheats do make awesome shoes.

I didn’t read all the way through your thread, but now that I have, realize you do not need shoes. In case you have second thoughts about the price, here is a pair of low sandals for $96 (after the endless J Crew 40% off sale).

The shoe you chose offers more support and probably easier to wear. As an aside, I have found the square block heels more comfortable than I expected. (Not on these shoes, but on others mentioned upthread.)

Remember, on a long dress your shoes aren’t really going to get much notice. Unless you have severe foot issues, I’d steer away from $1,000 shoes, it just seems like a waste of money for something that’s not going to be noticed unless you show people. I think BunsenBurner gave some nice suggestions…only you can put those shoes on and tell if they hit you wrong, etc. there are so many shoes out there where you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg. I do think a strappier sandal would be prettier.

I liked that Nina Newark for $70. The ones you bought are very pretty. Hope you can find another occasion to wear them.

Well, I wasn’t going to spend that much until I tried them on. They’re really nice in person and went great with the dress. And hubby was a bad influence as well. I tried the first floor of the shoes first, but inexpensive shoes tend to really hurt my feet. So maybe I’ll be wandering around my house in my jammies with my beautiful sparkly shoes. I didn’t want them being the focus, just a peek of fabulousness. I also already know I need them again in a few weeks for a different event. I won’t bother to justify it - I liked them, I bought them.

@eyemamom

All that really matters is YOU like them…and they really are lovely for your dress and events.

Those shoes are kyoot! (sorry, that’s what the girls use for anything that is super-cute)

They are very pretty, I will say that!

MOfD, I will have to remember that!

eyemom, enjoy your shoes! I have several pairs of D&G pumps and sandals acquired over the years, and I love them.

And speaking of hubbies… If I buy a thing online, Mr.'s eyebrows always go up, “you spent THAT much?” But if we go shopping together, which happens only once a year, and I pick a pricy thing and ask him if I should get it and which color I should get, he always says, “Why don’t you buy both? I like them both, and we are wasting our precious time making the little decisions.” LOL.

^^ @BunsenBurner same! with regards to the hubs.

^^^^Ditto with DH. Must be a male thing. Same when I would buy school clothes for the kids…seems I always bought too much, or he’d make a comment about why they needed more shoes, etc. but on occasion when he went with us…no problems! Jeez.

My husband has what I call “big number syndrome.” In his work he deals with hundreds of millions of $ so, for instance, when the figure for our bathroom remodel came in way more then we thought it would be he was “no problem” what’s another $X thousands of dollars. Then he went to my fav boutique to buy me new gloves and walked out because every pair there was $150 or more.

I know that OP has found the shoes. Posting this just in case if someone is looking for a beautiful, sturdy, lower heel sandal that goes well with many colors, including navy:
