Navy blue formal gown - shoe question

I am wearing a long navy blue gown in a few weeks. It has a high neck - it looks like a combo of these two, it’s not online anymore, I bought it at Nordstrom:

I want shoes that will look pretty, but I can stand in for hours and walk around - so stilty high heels are out.

I would normally say a silver sandal with a chunky heel, but I did see these - normally I wouldn’t wear navy shoes with a navy dress, but I wanted thoughts.

Silver sandal - I am NOT buying $750 shoes - just an example

I like the silver…maybe look for a gunmetal color?

Would you consider a kitten heel?

I love your dress, and like all the shoes. A silver sandal is my first choice. A few years back when I wanted a pair of silver sandals, for a one time dress up event, and didn’t want to pay much for them, I went to goodwill and found the perfect pair for less than $10. I wore them with very sheer stockings and donated them back to the same goodwill after the party.

The goodwill close to me always has designer goods. I understand that isn’t the case everywhere.

Me too- love the dress and the shoe selection. I like the strappy #2 and #3 shoes better than the first one and also like the silver the best.

The Nina Radha’s are beautiful, but be careful if your dress is long enough to get caught on the shoe decorations. I would probably go with something like the $750 silver pair, but cheaper -

A silver one-strap block heel:

Something with a (higher) silver wedge heel:

And a nude one:

I think that the Nina Radha shoes in almost any of the colors would be great with the dress, and far more comfortable than the others. I would find ALL of the shoes suggested by BunsenBurner to be agonizing to stand in after a short while.

MaterS’s kitten heels come in some fabulous-looking blingy colors, but I would worry about them being too pointy. It depends how they fit your foot.

I have zero tolerance for foot pain, and I find that shoes that throw my weight onto the ball of my foot cause it to experience a burning sensation quite quickly. Maybe I just have super-sensitive feet, lol.

LOL, Consolation - the last one I posted has the same heel height as the Nina.

My vote is the Stuart Weitzman in your original post in black or Bunsen’s higher Jimmy Choo wedge in post #6. Some nice bright polish on your toes will dress it up even more. Love the dresses!

I would avoid shoes with “bling” - as some already mentioned, long dresses can catch on the “bling” or “bling” can clash with the accessories and embellishment on the dress.

Another Nina:

And this one has the criss-cross of the JC:

You’re right! I must have missed that one.

Some great choices here. I always find Nina dress shoes to be very comfortable.

DSW always has Nina shoes deeply discounted.

Thanks for the tip of the embellishment getting stuck on the dress. I’m klutzy enough without that, it’s why I didn’t want a pointy heel, I figured I’d rip my dress off with it. I can’t go super high, but I love me some jimmy choo’s. My go to is stuart weitzman - as if he is one man - he just gets me. My feet are a little more narrow than medium, which then means I can wear all the fancy designer shoes without a problem. The problem is the sky high heels, I get cramps in my calf just trying to walk across a room.

I have Swarovski crystal Stuart Weitzman shoes very similar to the Pedro Garcia but with a regular high heel that I’ve worn with very fancy floor length royal blue gown. They looked great and are a stunning shoe. A navy dress, imo, needs some bling. I’ve also worn them with short black beaded dress. Nothing gets caught on the crystals, they are smooth.

Just wear a high heel for one night - it won’t kill you.

Or, If you are absolutely opposed to a higher heel, spend the money and get the Pedro Garcia’s. You will have them for the rest of your life and they will not go out of style, imo.

I don’t like the Nina wedges at all. They look dumpy to me.

I’m 6’ tall, and if I were wearing that dress, I would definitely wear a heel because I feel like a dress like that really needs some height from a shoe.

I also have major problems with my feet right now, so I also understand that high heels may not be possible. But if there is any way you could swing them, I think it will greatly enhance the overall effect of the outfit.

If you start shopping early enough and try on enough pairs, you should be able to find ones that are comfortable enough. With the after-holiday sales, you may be able to find a great deal on the more expensive brands, which often are much more comfortable than the cheaper brands.

I like the silver the best, then the navy. I don’t think nude goes well. I think you’re fine in any size heel, I prefer to wear high heels but I don’t think they’re necessary if they aren’t comfortable for you! Just make sure where the dress falls, not too long, etc. or if you need to get it hemmed depending on the shoe you wear!

LOL agree that the Nina “Rhonda” low wedge in #10 should get the heave-ho.

I’d avoid trying to color match your dress to your shoes (unless you’re wearing black). It always looks a little 80s bridesmaid to me, and almost never is perfectly matched.

I’d do nude or dark silver, or even a gunmetal.
