NC State 2024 Admission Thread

I personally think right now it would be UGA or VT. But yea UGA she may not get in. And we still have to go tour NC state. She wasn’t overly impressed on her Clemson tour. She did like South Carolina but it seems to still be middle of the group. I’m a little VT biased obviously with her brother there and the price tag.

Will the College of Engineering (Computer Science Dept) have their own Accepted Students Day? Or will it be generalized to NC State?

@vamominvabeach what school does your daughter go to in Virginia Beach?

@sunnyschool CONGRATULATIONS on DS admissions. He has some really strong schools to choose from!

Accepted yesterday!!!
OOS: Texas
Biomedical Engineering
Wasian Male
ACT:34
SAT: 1480
Gpa: 3.98/4.61
Rejections from UT (don’t even get me started on their admissions process) and UNC make NCST a real possibility for where I will attend. Hoping to get a good amount of merit/financial aid. Does anyone know if they traditionally are generous in terms of aid for OOS?

Can anyone reply to my query please:
I got denied, but emailed admissions to consider me for any major with available spaces. Do I still have a chance?

Only a guess, but if you were denied and not deferred my guess would be that something within your stats didn’t make the cut. Not trying to be mean but just my thoughts. Good luck, I’m sure you have a great things waiting.

Your guess is as good as mine. My DD got accepted yesterday to COE Computer Science and I guess we will find more info once you accept? Congratulations!

I would think if you got denied - changing major will not help. If deferred then yes that would make a difference. Sorry.

Wake Co deferred

w female
1410 SAT
4.1 wGPA (should finish with close to 4.3 as first semester grades were 4.6)
Varsity athlete x3
5 APs and the rest honors at very large competitive public HS

after school year-round job for 2+ years plus other ECs
Declared Bio major

Actually, he was deferred and asked to submit mid year grades. I guess there is still some hope.

@twinmommy are your twins hoping to go to the same school or to two different schools?

@CollegeWon what was your gpa and sat/act?

ACCEPTED! Poole College of Management (Supply Chain Management)

White female, OOS (NJ)

1580 SAT
3.86 UW / 4.35 W GPA
Very competitive HS, no class ranking

ECs: Choir/a cappella, volunteering & NHS, leadership, government club, sports up to JV, family responsibilities

Strong essays and recommendations

Excited! Does anyone know how merit scholarships work? Do I have to apply separately for those or do they automatically consider me for whichever ones I’m eligible for? Looked like a lot of the scholarships that required separate applications were not for first-year students. Also, how generous is NC State known to be with OOS aid?

My daughter got into the College of Sciences!! We’ll need some scholarships in order to make the OOS tuition work though. Fingers crossed! Did anyone else get invited to apply for the General Hugh Shelton Scholarship?

OOS (VA)
Weighted GPA 4.39
SAT 1350
11 AP Classes
2 Varsity sports each year plus year round swimmer
Lots of leadership roles in and outside of school: SCA Pres, Captain of Varsity Swim team, serves on our city’s Mayor’s Youth Commission and Library Board of Trustees, etc.
Lots of Volunteer work plus works FT in the summer as a lifeguard.

@limelo 3.39w/2.83 unweighted 1390 SAT, but family circumstances played a role in low grades especially Sophomore and Junior Year, which I wrote about in my essay

@croaswife They are planning to go to the same school as they want to room together

@jgwolf My son has applied to many of the same schools as yours as well - waiting on VT, FSU, and UF. He is in at UofSC, NCSU, UGA, UT-Austin and a couple of others. What is your son planning on studying? My son is pursuing statistics degree. A lot will ride on merit offers I think.

@CollegeWon are you local to the area? I would try to meet with an admissions counselor to find out specifically why your app was denied. It could be any number of things. Your GPA is a little low, but your SAT is higher than their stated average. If you are really set on NC State, maybe explore going to a CC for a year and really knocking it out of the park grade-wise and re-applying next year. Best of luck to you!

@sunsweet I emailed them, hoping they would reconsider my application for any majors that are open. I might attend one of the other local colleges if not admitted, and try to transfer.
