I was also not able to take AP Computer Science Principles to reach my limit of AP/Dual Enrollments in my Junior year due to a schedule conflict. My dip in grades sophomore year also made it so I was not allowed to take all the honors classes I wanted to.

In late 2023, my family experienced the sudden death of my uncle in Nigeria. This had a significant emotional impact on me and my family. Due to this, my parents had to travel back home to Nigeria for my uncle’s funeral, leaving me home alone for about two weeks. While I did my best to stay on top of schoolwork, this perioed affected my focus and contributed to a dip in my grades sophomore and early junior year.
Since then, I’ve regained my academic footing. This experience taught me resilience, indepedence, and how to persevere through difficult circumstances. I wasn’t able to take the honors/ap classes I wanted to take junior year because of the sophomore slump and I stated that on my application. I listed this in my additional info section. That’s the reason my GPA is lower than the average for NC State. For my psych supplemental, I talked about working in the home care business and watching the cognitive decline of people and how I wanted to make a change in the world. For my econ one, I spoke about my involvement in deca and the finance club. I’m aware my GPA is low but I think my context helps to explain why it is the way it is.

I think your odds will be tough - sorry to say. It has nothing to do with lack of APs or taking AP CS or not - as it’s not a necessary course. And you won’t be penalized based on the limits you were given.

Do you have the required amount of English, Math, Science, Foreign Language and Social Science? Test optional will not be of help.

NC State is a tough admit - but given you go to a private school, you might talk to them. Or I assume you’ve already applied so you’ll know soon enough.

I’m sorry about your loss.

As you’re asking for chances, I don’t think so - but as you haven’t heard, stay positive - and develop plan B in case it’s needed.

I have the required amount of English, Math, Science, Foreign Language and Social Sciences. Thanks for this. I thought my context can help explain the dip in grades. I also thought my ecs could help as well.

And they certainly might. Until you hear one way or the other, you don’t know - but it’s why you wait.

I’m not a believer that the additional info section matters, especially at stat driven publics. I also believe, while ECs can help, they don’t overcome academics.

But I”m not NC State admissions.

Do you have an affordable school to attend if not NC State - like UNCC, UNCW, ECU, etc? It may be NC State - as I said, I’m not admissions but if you wanted an opinion, my opinion would be know. But my opinion also doesn’t matter. Only theirs does.

My plan B is uncw so if I don’t get in I’ll be ok. Thanks for your help!

That is gonna be tough. We know people with weighted GPAs over 4.0 and who submitted good test scores who didn’t get in. Your passion sounds strong, but NC State isn’t easy to get into. Are you a current junior? If so, retake tests and try to get a high score.

I’m a senior waiting for RD after being deferred. I got a 4.3 weighted GPA my first semester of senior year. I know it’ll be hard but there might be a chance I think.
