NC State Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

So many people getting deferred is that because our spots are still technically saved they just want to see our midterm grades?

Yeah I was also wondering that if they deferred me until May 15, does that for sure mean that I have a seat reserved if my grades are kept high?

@westernkid1121 everyone I know who has gotten waitlisted from transferring has gotten in, don’t lose hope!

Doesn’t Sound like it… Per NCSU “It is difficult to predict how many applicants we will be able to accept after receiving your midterm grades. Admission will depend on your academic credentials, the credentials of the other applicants and space availability.”

More Information concerning those who are pending Midterm grades and Final Review can be found here but from the looks of it our spots are NOT guaranteed.

@NCSTATE2020fall thnx, I’m trying not 2, but that is getting more and more difficult ngl.

@Iceedragonz If I got pended for midterm grades does that mean I have a reserved seat, or is that for spring grades?

Hi guys! i got in, but will not be attending!

As a reassurance to anyone deferred, it says on the article for those pending Spring grades, that ANYONE still completing the recommendations for competitive applicants would be deferred. So thats probably why so many were deferred

“If you are currently completing the recommended courses or credit hours for your major of interest, we will review your spring grades before making a final admissions decision by June 15.”

Have they ever done the whole midterm grade review before? Cause I don’t think so, but it is strange.

@westernkid1121 It is very strange… and weird that they emailed me and a few others asking a few days ago, but some were informed today. Must be coronavirus for some reason

@Emberry that’s what I am thinking because why do two different deferred dates and not just one. I wonder what the difference is between the two and how they decided who is spring and who is midterm.

@westernkid1121 I think midterm is for people finishing the competitive recommendations. And spring is the regular for people who might have lower gpas.

Soooo what are we supposed to submit for midterm grades? Do I just take a screenshot of them on blackboard or do I need to email my professors for something more official?

@westernkid1121
This is exactly what our current advisor emailed us.

Pending receipt of spring grades: Recall, this is NOT like being deferred. Deferred means we don’t have a seat for you….we are waiting for another person to forgo their seat in the COE [college of engineering]. Pending means that they are reserving a spot for you, but want to see your final spring grades before making a decision. This is where the decision to take a Pass/Fail in a spring course is a tricky one. Consult me with any questions

She had said there is no way to be an actual deferred student, but she’s speaking for the engineering program. Can’t speak for any other major/program that is offered.

Congratulations to everyone who was admitted! I was deferred for final review. Does anyone know how or what format to submit midterm grades? I’d also like to know the difference between deferred for midterm grades and deferred for spring grades. Does anyone know?

I just saw the other replies that answered a lot of my questions. I am still curious about how to submit midterm grades though if anyone can help. Thanks!

@westernkid1121 To clarify on my last post… Our advisors email this morning said there’s only 3 decisions possible (for engineering majors at least) acceptance, denial, or pending spring grades. NOT a true deferral. Sorry for any confusion!

I feel like if you were pending spring grades, and they’ve saved a seat for you, then you’ve got great chances of making it in. I imagine it’s so that they make sure you meet the requirements. I know for comp engineering you need a certain GPA in your calc classes, so if you got accepted halfway through calc 2 and slacked the rest of the semester, it wouldn’t be fair to let you in still because you didn’t meet the requirement.
If you keep grades up, then you should be selected because they’ve already saved you a seat based on the current information they have!

That would be my assumption based on my conversations with my husband’s advisor. Hopefully any of that helps!!

@itsmejess not sure. I imagine if your school lets you look up unofficial transcripts online, maybe a screenshot/PDF will work?
Otherwise schools will allow you to buy a transcript with an option of sending as is, instead of waiting until the final semester grades are posted.
I’ve been able to send unofficial transcripts before, to prove I’m currently enrolled in a class, but I don’t know what NCSU requires. You can always call/email! They respond quickly to emails ?
