If these proposals are adopted it will be a huge benefit to both college coaches and recruited athletes.

While the standardization of recruitment timing for all sports is great in reducing confusion, I am not sure about the two-year recruitment window without format/frequency limitation. It’s easier for S to manage what he wants to respond to with mailing/emailed materials, it would be hard if those are phone calls.

Would this be different for revenue v. non-revenue sports?

It seems in my experience that the constant communication coming from the schools comes for football and basketball where the stakes are more critical. Whereas the communication is going upstream from the prospective athlete/parent to the school or coach letting them know the status/results etc…

Just seemed like we did way more work selling the non-revenue sport than we did with basketball, where I had coaches calling and texting from our sophomore season until we signed.

Swimming2014- If you like you can screen the calls from the coaches. If S is studying or at practice then take a message and have your S email the coach within 24 hours and make a follow up call. If one of his top choices calls then I think it would be a good idea to tell the coach that you are pleased that he called. If the coach calls his cell phone then the phone’s voicemail can take a message while he is busy. It is important to talk to the coach on the phone however much of the communication between your S and the coach can be handled by Email. My S was contacted by several Ivies and several UAA schools during the summer and falls of his senior year and was able to manage the phone calls well.

Totally agree about having the athletes manage the calls with parents’ occasional assistance when they are seniors. I was thinking about the calls to the athletes when they are just entering their junior years. The rules won’t take effect for another two years if adopted though.

Re: frequency of contact, the desirability of athletes also plays a big role for non revenue generating sports.
