I thought that Men’s Rowing wasn’t an NCAA sport – so does my son still have to register with NCAA (and pay the $) if he only wants to participate in crew in college? He is starting to fill out recruit info and one of the questions asked is NCAA number.

I don’t know anything about rowing, but I was surprised to see it’s not listed as an NCAA sport. Do the NCAA rules and regulations not apply to rowing?

I don’t know anything about Rowing either, but Rowing is listed as one of the number of Women’s sports which require NCAA eligibility clearance per the NCAA Eligibility Center’s website.

Their “Athletic Rowing sihouette symbol”- is that of the silhouette of a female Rower. (:(Long flowing hair and all). When you “click” Rowing on the NCAA Eligibility Center’s website, it list all NCAA Div 1 and Div 2 WOMEN’S Rowing programs.

We all know that there are collegiate Men’s Rowing Teams !

I think this is a question for the NCAA Eligilibity Center. Call them toll free at 877- 262-1492. Post their response when you get an answer. This is an interesting question?

Some schools may require you to register, even though men’s rowing is not an NCAA sport, because they follow NCAA rules with respect to academic eligibility and amateur rules (the latter shouldn’t be an issue with rowing).
However, if you want to save the money, I would just ask the coach.

Thanks so much for the info! Looks like I need to contact the schools to see if they require him to register. The recruitment form for Cornell asked for his number, which is what got me wondering.

Men’s rowing is not an NCAA sport but the coaches and the D1 schools (not sure about D3) all follow NCAA rules anyway and they will want you to register.
