Ncssm

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the competition is like for this school. I know several people there.
I’m a Freshman at Wayne School Of Engineering. I’m in congressional districts 1 & 3.
I’ve completed both Algebra (8th grade, middle school transcript, no credit. Although… I don’t have to take it again… it’s weird) and Geometry (H) (Before EOC: 100. After:97)
I’m currently in Algebra II (I was only able to take standard… the reasoning behind that is very complex), and next semester I will take pre-cal (honors).
Next year I hope to take Calculus BC (The teacher is from the distance learning department of NCSSM. It’s online like all of my math courses.)
I have the following courses and grades: (We have an exemption to start early, and have already received first 9-week grades.)
Engineering the future (H) 96
World History (H) 94 (I need to bring this up)
Applications of science (H) 98
English I (H) 99
Writing 101 (H) 99

Both Algebra II and AP art history are online, and thus have not completed their first 9 weeks.
9th grade ECs: Goldsboro Mayor’s Youth Council (I plan to run for an office next year, I couldn’t this year. I may even run for a state office.), Wayne School of Engineering Science olympiad leader and founding member (Well… I will be in a few weeks), Art Club Advisory Council, I’m planning to organize the strategic boards club, Wayne School of Engineering Christian fellowship group member, (We are seeing if we can have a TSA group. The problem is that we don’t have a vocational department.), Tae Kwon Do first Gup (I’ll have to explain this one), youth group, handbells, and I’m planning to apply to be an attorney in teen court.
Should I list that I was on the front page of my local newspaper? (A picture as part of the article about the opening of my school… and it was the main front page picture, and I was in it.)
I hope to be on the yearbook committee. (For our 80 students…)
Um… and I was invited (and attended) the fair math competition although I didn’t place. (I had at that point only completed Algebra I and Geometry… while almost everyone else had completed pre-cal and above. Ironically, although my partner and I were the only freshmen, we weren’t the youngest people. The youngest person was 13-14 and a senior on the winning team.)
And I was selected to spend a complete school day working on assembling the school laptops…
NSA member (National Scrabble Association), placed 4th in my division in a tourney in durham, nc, won the prize for the highest scoring word in my division, and I have an NSA rating of 705. (After about 7 games.)
I’ll be required to know a basic amount of BASIC by the end of this year… as we will program robots and have a competition with a neighboring school…

I heard somewhere that you may list EC’s from 7th-10th. Is this true? (The above are high school only.) 7th EC’s:
TSA member, Chess club member, Battle of the Books member, Debate club president.10th Annual Tae Kwon Do goodwill games “Superior performance.”
8th grade ECs: Chess club member, Battle of The books member, Debate club member (debated at the United nations in New York), What is AIG? AIG Project webmaster and presenter. Nominee for “Most likely to succeed.” Recognized at a Wayne County Board of Education meeting for my debate at the UN (The meeting was on TV…)
If I list those crazy certificates at the awards ceremony:
Outstanding academic excellence President’s education awards program
EWMS debate club outstanding member
Most industrious in technology
Excellent achievement in Exploring business & marketing

lol That’s all, unless I list online organizations… and various other even crazier certificates…
Next semester I plan to take the SAT subject test for world history, and the AP art history exam.

Should I list the fact I had to be accepted at Wayne School of Engineering?

I am attending open house this November and have been invited to a lecture at NCSSM on the 16th of November.

I saw an earlier post about SVSM… but I don’t know whether to apply to that, Harvard Secondary School, or both…

I expect to be ranked 1-3 in my school… and have around a weighted GPA of a 4.8-5.2 next year.
I may be able to take some classes through my local community college next year… through my school’s exemption. (Particularly language… and maybe intro to bowling… because my school will weight it as an AP class.)

My school works like this:
AP: 96+ 6.0 (I’m the only one in an AP class)
Honors 96+ 5.0 (This is the only type of class offered at my physical school)
Standard 96+ 4.0 (Then again, I’m the only one in a standard class. But it’s only because I have to be… and this will be the only one I have to take.)

I expect very good recommendations… and my counselor spends between 5 and a half hours-3 hours and 30 minutes a week with me. (Although it is only me sitting in her office doing my online classes.)

Um… Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated… and I know almost certainly I’ll be the only one from Wayne County to have completed any calculus (and I hope to take Statistics and/or Latin at Wanye Community college.)

I’m nervous about this…
I talked to my guidance counselor and someone from the central office and they both simply said “You’ll get in.”
Pax et bonum,
name removed - Mod JEM

P.S. And I’m on block scheduling.

Note to self: Indention is your friend.

Okay…let’s see…seems like you are really determined to come to NCSSM! I’m a junior to ncssm by the way. :] After reading the fact that you are a freshman I realized that it’s probably not the right thing for you to be thinking all about NCSSM already. YOu don’t apply there till next year (right aroudn this time) Being in CD 1 or 3 w/ such awesome courseload/GPA dfeinitley helps…you’ve to show leadership/passion in ur ECs next year…but anyway…CD 1 or 3 are some fo the easier CDs in terms of applicants you’ll be competing against.
I guess I’ll be seeing you next Saturday then! Nov 16 is the Ethics and Leadership Conference…if you are interested in that it’s for that thing…nothing that’d let you learn about NCSSM in particular…but, still it doens’t hurt to come to that annual big event.
You’ve your whole 9th Grade in front of you…take care of that…your grades and everything looks fabulous. You’ve good chances. I wudn’t say anything in particular till u r done w/ 9th grade…small tip:- don’t take SAT I in ur Freshman year…just to be ahead of the game or something…it won’t be accepted…I know a lot of my friends here and seniors did that and they again had to take it …so, yeah, wait till it comes for you to apply.

Explore more about NCSSM through the Open Houses and more other programs they’ve initiated this year…don’t hesistate to PM me or post here any NCSSM questiosn for me…

Best of Luck and See you next Saturday then! ;)
