Top Choice: Boston University
Reach School: Brown University</p>

<p>Hi there, I was just wondering what my chances are at these relatively competitive schools… Brown is definitely a huge reach, but I’m incredibly determined and I’ll probably apply either way. I’m a horrible test taker as you can see here… but my scores are slowly improving.</p>

<p>DO I HAVE EVEN THE SLIGHTEST CHANCE OF GETTING INTO BROWN!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?</p>

<p>Second time testing (will be sending these using score choice instead of my first time scores)
Sat - 1740: Reading 520 Math 600 Writing 620
Subject tests - Bio M 680 Mathematics Level 2 680
ACT - 25</p>

<p>AP: 3 on Bio</p>

<p>(AWFUL I KNOW) But i will be taking the SATs and ACTs again for a third time this December and sending those scores along with those above^^^ ALSO SHOULD I SEND MY SAT SCORES OR MY ACT SCORES?!?!? For Bowdoin and Bates, I probably won’t send any.</p>

  • Hospital - Volunteered in transport and materials as well as the Breast and Osteoporosis center (candy striper) 8 hours a day, 1-2 days a week, for the entire summer
  • Children’s Museum - worked the exhibits, helped with the summer camp, 4-6 hours a day, 2 days a week
  • Retirement home - played bingo, made homemade ice cream, etc. 2 hours a day every other week</p>

  • Tour guide - Summer of 2012, gave tours of the new school 4-5 hours a week for about 5 weeks
  • Community Events - countless hours
  • Babysitting close family friends (NO PAY) 2 years, almost every weekend 4-5 hours per week

  • Taking care of elderly family friend - I go over and deliver free food, talk, give rides - Every couple weeks
  • Spanish club - Helping out with the bottle/food drive, provide food for those in need </p>

<p>Teacher/guidance recommenders: Assuming will be great, I have a Brown Alumni (one of my english teachers) submitting one as well!</p>

<p>Essay: I have a compelling story to tell about how I saved someone’s life.</p>

<p>More about me/potential hooks:
I have made states for both indoor and outdoor track
Neither of my parents went to college (first gen)
95.8 GPA as of last semester (probably will go up) Is that equivalent to a 4.0?!? or like 3.9?
High honors every year</p>

<p>Honestly the only one of those schools you can get into with those scores is U of Maine, which would be a clear safety for you.</p>

<p>BU MIGHT be possible if you have AMAZING essays and teacher recs. But the other schools you listed won’t take applicants with such low scores. </p>

I’d place more importance on the SAT over the ACT (if you can choose).</p>

<p>u can get that sat up mann…not bashing on u but i know half smart 7th graders who get that on the duke tip…get it up above a 2000 or act above 30…it wouldnt be highly competitive scores but they are much better and in their percentile range</p>

<p>IMO, you should take MATH 1 SAT or retake MATH 2 SAT again, because getting 680 on MATH 2 SAT is not goint to look good on you during college admission process… especially when it has such a generous curve. Unless you can get up your SAT/ACT to 2000/30+, Brown will be out of reach.</p>

<p>I would like to take the time and thank everyone that replied to this thread early on. I took the SATs again and received a much much higher score and everything all ended up working out. </p>

<p>Sorry, but all of those except Maine seem like reaches for you. When it comes to extracurriculars, try only putting the ones that mean most to you and your major. You don’t want it to come off as you are just trying to fill your resume instead of getting quality experiences.</p>

<p>Great that you got a much better score at the end. I hope that would have brought you in range for the schools on the list. Brown has an even lower admission rate than Northwestern, SAT 1740 is not even possible for Northwestern disregarding all other factors.</p>

<p>If definitely did! Third time’s a charm. I was able to bring my SAT score up to a good range. Though it probably wasn’t good enough for Brown ): . I ended up getting into all my schools listed besides Brown (Waitlisted). </p>

<p>What I thought was funny is that you were going only for colleges that began with a B…surely, you’ve got to be the only senior here at CC who applied to 5 B schools and got into them all. LOL> </p>
