Is there a supermarket near campus that is easily reached via the Metro? Or does the University have a shuttle bus system that goes to a supermarket?

you can take the metro down to the Brentwood Station. There’s Wal Mart, Target, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and Dierbergs all within walking distance

You can also walk to walgreens and Schnucks.

I google-mapped it to check. It’s a 15 minute walk from the South 40 to Schnucks.

edit: schnucks is a grocery store hq’d in st louis. It’s apparently the largest grocery store chain in the midwest according to wikipedia.

yeah, you can make the walk… Its tough carrying groceries with you, on bike would be a bit more managable. It is up and down hills…

Also, Traders Joes and Whole Foods are national chains. Dierbergs is a St. Louis local chain. Its a bit more upscale than Schnucks. Its right at the Brentwood station. I think walking to Schnucks/metro to Dierbergs may be pretty close on time. Maybe even faster to go on the metro, and much less walking with groceries.

I doubt it’s faster on the metro- you can sometimes wait 10 minutes just for it to show up. And it takes ~10 minutes to walk to the metro from the south 40 anyway.
Faster to get to Schnucks definitely.

Although you do raise a good point about carrying them back. If it’s only a few bags, it’s not a big deal.

The metro is all the way across campus - easily a 10 minute walk depending where you are on the forty, and like Johnson mentioned, you can wait for a while (actually up to 20 minutes) both there and back. It’s convienient if you have time to waste because you can take the campus circulator to the metro and cut down on time walking with heavy bags. There’s also a Target and a Whole Foods by the Dierbergs and Trader Joe’s, so you’d be able to get a wayyy wider variety of stuff. I heard a rumor that a campus grocery/food ordering service is coming to campus, which sounds amazing.

Schnucks and Dierbergs are all located throughout the St. Louis area; I’m sure you will find at least one that is convenient for you. They are really good grocery stores with a lot of different options for whatever you may be looking for. haha

use the WeCar if you want to get larger items at Schnucks, such as pop, water, etc.

There is a WashU/Metrobus bus that leaves from Mallincrodt that drops and picks up in front of the Shnucks near the Loop. I’d recommend checking bus times online (parking.wustl.edu) so you dont have to wait long at Mallincrodt, and make sure you have your U-Pass! Also, remember that the new Bear Mart will open this year on the 40, so you’ll be able to get a lot of what you want/need right on campus.
