Neatness on the SAT essay

Is neatness important? For example, can i use those little arrows to insert words? Can i cross out words?

Yes, yes, and yes. It had to be legible, obviously. But the essay is graded as if it were a rough draft, which means inserts and deletions are allowed. Just don’t make it so sloppy that it’s hard to interpret.

I personally believe that the neater it is and he easier it is to read, the more generous the scoters are going to be. Nobody wants to read chicken scratch, even if the content is actually really good. This isn’t proven, just a theory of mine.
