Necessary to retake the SAT for better NMF chance?

Need some advice from the community. My son scored a 221 on the PSAT and appears will be a NMSF in Idaho. He just received his SAT scores from his first try in June (new test), scoring a 1490, which I believe is good enough to be a confirming score to give him a good chance at being a NMF.

He is interested in schools like Oklahoma, Idaho, Liberty University and Arizona for a biology degree in preparation for medical school since they will likely offer a full ride.

? Should he retake the SAT to try and improve into the 1500s or does improving on a 1490 matter that much in the NMF process.

Thank you

There will be a specific cutoff for SAT scores, and it is very likely going to be below 1400. Having anything above that should be sufficient, and they will review the other parts of your son’s finalist application.

^^this is to the best of my knowledge.

Also, note that OU doesn’t offer a full ride. I once thought they did, but due to fees and housing costs, the scholarship doesn’t quite cover it:)
