King bed. Metal platform frame with wooden slats. Need a bed skirt because stuff is hidden under the bed - has to be. There is no box springs. 18” drop. Attached headboard. I need to occasionally access what is under the bed. I read about those circa wraparound things, which look great but apparently do not work well with a headboard and do not provide easy access to what is under the bed. So that is out. Ideas?
What kind of bed covering do you use? Are you looking to cover up the sides of the bed? Foot end? In a queen bed I would tell you to size up - so that your quilt or comforter/duvet would hang lower. But for a king…
The Company has detachable bedskirts with 18 inch drop. Attaches with velcro.
@abasket - I’m looking for something to go around three sides of the bed frame. I will use a regular comforter/coverlet to cover the mattress itself.
@gouf78 - I started to mention this in my post, but I feared it would be confusing. There is currently a bed skirt that attaches with Velcro that the former owners left. However, it is really meant to go around a box springs. That is all I am finding for bed skirts with Velcro. It would work great if there were a box springs. It is like putting on a fitted sheet on the bottom and the Velcro is there. It actually works quite well. HOWEVER, because it is meant for a box spring and goes from the bottom up (instead of from the top down) that means it is is impossible to tuck in my flat sheet. Which then hangs down too low.
See how confusing that is?? That was why I left it out. Ha ha!
I saw some that brand called Zinus on Amazon that had clips, but the drop is only 14”. The 18” drops ones were unavailable. Reviews were mixed anyway. I need the bed to be 18” high because of what is stored underneath.

We have a metal frame platform bed and I tuck everything under the mattress including the coverlet, for a streamlined modern look.
We don’t store anything under the bed besides dust bunnies, so no skirt.
Wouldn’t a classic bed skirt that goes under the mattress work? You’d have to lift the mattress to get it on; not sure if that’s an issue. You could also make your own fitted skirt out of a flat sheet, by removing the excess material in the corners and sewing edges together. Amazon also does have a bunch for sale with various drop lengths, but sheet fabric is generally much nicer quality.
I’m not entirely clear on the issue but I needed a bed skirt (my mother always called them dust ruffles) that would work on a bed with a foot board. I got the kind that goes under the mattress and covers three sides and split it at the bottom corners.
Would the easier solution be to figure out other storage for the stuff under the bed??
I wish. Our old place had a small on-site storage unit. We only have one walk-in closet here. The closets in the other two bedrooms are not walk-ins. I would get rid of all the Christmas ornaments, but ds won’t let me. I really and truly have pared down as much as I can unless I want to trash all my and our families sentimental items. We also have luggage under there. One tub of high school memorabilia for ds, one tub of baby/school items of ds’s that I want to keep, and one tub my mother’s treasures. If there were another way, that is what I would do. In some ways we have lots more storage (kitchen), but I knew what we had in the storage unit was going to be a challenge. It really works well under the bed, actually. It’s highly organized/labeled (which was how it was in the storage unit. Mostly we have more elbow room here. We went from 935 sq ft to 1.600 sq ft of living space.
@Marilyn My fear with a traditional bed skirt will slide around too much. And, yes, I agree - traditional bed skirts generally have that sheer fabric that is not great quality. That’s another reason I was trying to find an alternative. I do think bed skirts are difficult to get on with a king mattress. Actually, with all mattresses!

I’ve used bedskirts with a mattress on wood slats or on a wood platform, no box spring. They were three sided, attached to a cloth rectangle that fit under the mattress. I used them on at least six beds, no boxspring, and can’t remember it ever being a problem making the bed. They don’t have to be washed often, so just stay on the bed. Either I ordered them, or someone made them for me. If you can’t get the right length, you could probably have it hemmed at dry cleaners.
They are available lots of places, Bed, Bath & Beyond, walmart, target, or more upscale. Tailored or fancy. Different quality fabrics.

To prevent riding around, you need to secure the skirt part to the slats. To hold the skirt in place, glue some Velcro onto the skirt’s flat part (that goes over the bed), slap on the counterpart Velcro with the glue exposed, position over the bed, and firmly press in place so that the Velcro would stick to the slats. That is what I would do.
I have a bedskirt on our bed, and it would slide around a bit. I cut some strips of that inexpensive non skid woven matting that goes under throw rugs and put it across the edges under the bedskirt. Problem solved.
You can also purchase similar non skid matting on a roll to use in kitchen cupboards and drawers. I think I purchased some at target at some point.

A piece of plywood, cut to size, or a bunkie board, will reinforce the slats, you can then add a regular bedskirt over that, and then put the mattress on top; it will hide all the under-the-bed junk
Agree with above! Add a piece of plywood—problem solved. Or—find a seamstress who can make the bed covering you prefer and that will cover the stuff under the bed.
What about using decorative under the bed boxes? There are some really attractive looking ones including some that are wood on casters. You can look on Wayfair, West Elm, Amazon, etc…
I agree with rethinking and getting storage boxes that go with the headboard perhaps. The only problem might be that most of them are shallow so finding something to fill 18" could be a search.
I like the nice boxes idea better than the skirt. I have a couple of those popup nylon IKEA storage boxes with zippers that I use to store extra blankets etc. under the king bed in kids’ room. They are not very noticeable even though the bed is a wood platform bed without a skirt.
