What fragrance can I check out that’s fresh and clean and light? I need a change. I’ve become so aware of how much fragrances bother people that I’ve really stopped wearing mine at all. So, now would be a good time to go searching. What do you like?
I love Poppy and it’s one that gets compliments quite a bit.
Philosophy Pure Grace or Amazing Grace
Take an online fragrance quiz. People’s tastes vary so widely that a fresh, light perfume to me might smell like bug spray to you.
That said, my current favorites are Eau des Bienfaits by Roger et Gallet (a unisex body spray) and Jo Malone’s Frangipani. They’re very different and both are light.
None…because even if it smells “light” to me…it is an irritant to some others.
Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Fig:

Lancome O de L’Orangerie. Light and fresh.
I don’t normally wear any b/c anything other than shower gel/lotion tends to give me a headache.
Now don’t make fun of me b/c it’s almost laughable… but Bath and Body Works still has some really nice scents. I really like their Aromatherapy. Love (Rose Vanilla) is a nice spring/summer and their Jasmine Vanilla is very warm smelling for fall/winter. Their sleep scents are very nice as well.
Crabtree and Evelyn used to carry a Gardenia scent that I adored… I don’t think they still do though.
Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana. So light and fresh.
Got lucky and found it at Costco for great price, along with a lot of other top end colognes. I guess a special for holiday gifting.
Hardest part was freeing it from enormous plastic packaging!
Go to somewhere that sells Jo Malone. You can try the one @Massmomm recommended above. I’d also suggest you test both Bluebell and Freesia and Pear (Blossom?). The second is their most popular scent and is very light and fresh.
I also love Light Blue. I think it smells “clean and fresh”-- not heavy or sweet–although some people might put it in the “bug spray” category. Bath and Body Works has one called White Citrus that I also like for its fresh and light scent.
( I remember a similar clean scent from Avon called “Come Summer”–I loved that one 40 years ago when I was a teenager.)
Another one I like that is slightly heavier/more complex/“bitter” is Acqua di Gioa by Giorgio Armani. Also have Jennifer Anniston’s Beachscape. That one is on the sweeter side, but still light/fresh.
I second the recommendation for Joe Malone fragrances. There are many and you just need to go to Bloomingdale or Nordstrom (I don’t know if another department store sells this brand) and see what appeals to you. My favorite this year is Basil and Neroli.
Atelier cologne Paris has some nice (unisex!) fragrances.
Also chiming in for Jo Malone fragrances. I use English Pear & Freesia and also Peony & Blush. They have so many that there is likely something that will appeal to you.
Best decision!
Where do you all wear these fragrances? Many workplaces ask that you don’t. Doctors offices ask that you don’t. Many venues ask that you don’t.
Where can you wear these fragrances?
I stopped wearing fragrance for years as they caused me to sneeze. Then a friend had Jo Malone English pear and fressia hand lotion that I loved. I use the shower gel, lotion and occasionally the perfume. It is very light and I often get compliments on the fragrance. I also like the Origins ginger range over Thanksgiving/ christmas time.
I’ve never had an employer, doctor’s office or a venue ask me not to wear any fragrance. Nor have I ever seen it posted in places I’ve visited.
There are certain smells that make me slightly sick to my stomach: heavy garlic odor on someone’s breath or skin, curry…
I just move away from these people (if I can). Otherwise dabbing a bit of cologne under my nose masks these bad odors.
^The only doctors I’ve seen requesting patients not to wear fragrances is when you get a mammogram.
I teach and have my own office, so I don’t have issues with anyone being so close as to be bothered. I wear fragrances pretty much all the time, at home, work, going out, doing errands.
