Need a new refrigerator: any recommendations, advice welcome

We got a Kenmore freezer on bottom frig. with just one door on top…not the French style… from the Sears Appliance Outlet store. It was a “scratch and dent” sale…a good discount. The only dent in it was sooo tiny. We had to look hard to find it. The manager of the store told us that any appliance that is delivered to a home and then returned for any reason (like it doesn’t fit the space or the buyer doesn’t like the color, etc) is considered “used” and can’t be sold as new. We love the fridge.

Packmom - Good luck with the new fridge. It feels good when you get the decisions done ;)

We have a French door Maytag with the drawer freezer and really like it.

Our electric company also gives a rebate if you let it haul away the old energy hog fridge, so it worth checking.

The house we bought a little over a year ago has a Jenn Aire with French doors and freezer drawer beneath in the kitchen. It’s quite a good refrigerator, I’d say. The pantry has a built in sub zero refrigerator with two built-in drawers beneath. It seems to work fine so far. Believe they are about five years old.

At first I was sort of perplexed by the lay out but the walk-in pantry with another refrigerator/freezer has been quite nice. It took me awhile but I figured out a system for what goes where.

We had a kitchen aid in last home and it was a terrific refrigerator - no problems in ten years+ .

Our Subzero (freezer on bottom) needed one major repair (just under warrantee–how often does that happen?) and then lasted another 30 years and could still be running. We sold that house. In new house we were confronted with a built-in box that was so oddly shaped we could only find 2 models out there that would fit. We chose the LG french door, freezer on bottom and it has been smooth sailing so far (2 years +). We did have the repairman out to replace the rubber seals once–but so far, so good after that. Until reading above warning, I didn’t realize they had a bad bad bad rep. Fingers crossed going forward.
