Need a new strat

Comp:29
E:30
M:32
R:24 <<<< !!!
Sci:30
April 2008

I would like to get a 30 which means I’d need to get my reading to at least a 26 (that implies that I keep these same scores for the other sections which is iffy for English). 27 would be nice to give me a buffer for English. Now, I’ve improved my composite from 24(first practice test) > 29 (first real test I got a 28). I’ve improved everything but Reading. The highest I have ever received was a 25. I usually read the sci passage first, then social, then fiction, then humanities. I go from my easiest to my hardest (this sometimes varies if I don’t like the passage).
I DO read the whole passage. This is the only way for me to understand it. It seems, however, this isn’t working. Maybe you guys can suggest a bunch of strategies so I can try them out and see what I do best with.

Thanks!

first of all, (i’m really bad at reading so the tips i give you might not be so good), why are you doing the easiest up??? it takes like 3 minutes along just to see which ones are hard and which ones are easy. The questions are usually in the order from 1 (easy) to 40 (hard), I don’t think you should choose the which one is the easiest to began with, what’s the point? you’ll have to do them no matter what, might as soon as possible and get it over with. second of all, (I suck at this, can’t do it whatsoever, but maybe you can) my instructor told me to read the first and last sentence of each paragraph, and basically skip the middle part (but skim it so u don’t miss an important part) so you get the idea of what each paragraph is, and when the question pop up and ask you the specific part, you can just zoom through and find your answer. Finally, I would try to make sure to read and UNDERSTAND the passage, … if you can’t understand it, what’s the point of reading it?? use the skimming thing i just mentioned, and if you don’t understand it, go back and read the paragraph again.

i got a 36 on reading both times i took the ACT. what i did for the reading was that first i read a question then read as much as i needed to in order to answer the question (if it was a summary question or something similar i skipped it until the end)
then i read the next question and read until i had enough info to answer that.
