I am trying to find a place within walking distance of the Denver Convention Center, May 15-22 when there will be a convention in town. Many of the nearby hotels are sold out due to the convention. Any suggestions are welcome. Have never tried AirBnB but H tends to prefer hotels.
The Westin is really nice. I think it’s close to the convention center…but I’m not totally sure. Probably sold out, and probably very expensive if it’s not, though. But nice.
Yes, I think a lot of the hotels are sold out. As a safety, I booked Fairfield Inn at Cherry Creek. It’s about 10 miles from the Convention Center, so H will have to drive me/us to attend, or I will drive myself and park at the convention center. I got the hotel at a patient rate, because I will also get a medical re-eval while I’m there at the convention. Many of the other hotels are several times the rate I got. I can cancel within 24 hours prior to the date with no penalty.
Traffic and parking can be a pain (and pricey) in Denver. Maybe you can find a place that has light rail access to the convention center?
Maybe I’ll try that, but I’m not to familiar with the area, as I’ve only been to National Jewish and the Convention Center, with not much experience of the area in the middle. Do you have any areas you would recommend that have light rail access to the convention center? Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
Darn - I wish I had seen this before visiting with DD and her BF today. I don’t know Denver very well, but they do. I’ll try to remember to call her tomorrow.

Any hotel along the Light Rail would get you right to the convention center. You can stay at the Fairfield Inn in Cherry Creek and still take light rail, but you’d have to drive to the light rail station (Colo Blvd, or Denver University). Both have lots of free parking.
Any hotel downtown would also be easy access by the free mall shuttle, so it wouldn’t matter if you stayed down by Union Station (train station and also a Light Rail hub) or down by the Capitol. There is a Courtyard by Marriot (I think) across from the Pepsi center which would be a slight walk, but I bet there is shuttle or it’s a 3 minute cab ride to the convention center.
The 2 places I’ve stayed right by the “mall” that I can recommend were The Magnolia and The Curtis. Both were great and not bank busting.

OK, I did stay at the Fairfield Inn Cherry Creek. It was a short 10 minutes walk to the light rail or free park & ride. We walked the first day & caught the light rail, since there were a lot of road closures due to a run/half-marathon. It was quick & easy. The rest of our stay, we drove our car and parked at the convention center. Our friend was able to catch the light rail back to the park & ride or hotel, so she could leave the conference at the time she preferred. I had evening receptions to attend with H, so we just left our car at the Convention Center until we were ready to return to the hotel, which avoided having to move the car from one location to another.
The Inn served a decent buffet breakfast–fresh fruit, milk, yogurt, make-your-own waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, cereal, oatmeal, juice and hot beverages. Free parking was included with the room. Our rate was $111/113 per nite, which was 50-100% cheaper than hotels nearer the Convention Center, so it worked OK for us and saved our pocketbook some. The hotel also had spacious, quiet rooms with mini-fridges and microwaves, as well as a table and chairs. I would stay there again and recommend the hotel. It was close to the medical center that I had appointments at the first two days of our stay.
