Need a Superbowl Team

Looking for a team to root for (and why) to make Superbowl Sunday more interesting. Underdog story or any kind of "emotional strings’’ will help. Thanks!

Any team with Ray Lewis on it worth rooting against. Unless you like murders.

^ You beat me to it.

Go 49ers.

Niners, of course!

But you don’t have to be all negative about it. Colin Kaepernick is a great story- he only began being a starting QB a few weeks ago and is doing an incredible job (though my heart still breaks for Alex Smith who he replaced…). And you have to route for the kicker Akers, who was Probowl last year, and this year has done so poorly that he may not have a job. Every field goal is an adventure…

I’m sure the Ravens have their stories (like a murderer on the team), but they aren’t the Niners.

Sigh… Ravens because they do awesome things to raise awareness about dog fighting and abuse in their community. They do a ton for pit bulls and animals in general.

Niners! I actually don’t know anything about football, though.

Root for the team that is coached by Harbaugh.

Oh, wait . . . ;)

I would like to see Ed Reed get a ring because he may be the best to ever play his position. I also like Ray Rice a Rutgers grad.

So I lean to the Ravens. I am sick of Ray Lewis though. The Raven Harbaugh seems better than the 49er Harbaugh also.

My team had an incredibly sucky season and, though I’m not a fan of any other teams, I’m rooting for the **AFC/b to take home the win.

only on the internet can one ask this question and not be publicly humiliated, but what town do the Ravens call home?

Poetgrl, no need to feel embarrassed. They are the Baltimore Ravens.

Thanks. I"m a hockey fan and a college hoops fan, but haven’t followed football since the cowboys were all that. Going to a party this year, though, and I will vote for the Ravens on the principle that Baltimore is grittier.

Poetgrl, My H always hosts a Superbowl party but has no skin in this game, so to speak. He will be rooting for the 49ers because he finds the young quarterback impressive, as doughmom mentioned. I may go that route, but I like romani’s story about how the Ravens are compassionate animal lovers. I was also thinking that perhaps the elder Harbaugh brother should win (whoever he is) as I cannot bear a younger sibling going “na-na-na-na-na” at the next Thanksgiving table. Not sure what to make of the murderer so I will leave that alone–I cannot see myself shouting “murderer” at the screen. Good thing I have some time to contemplate.

After years of enduring the fans across the Bay I can’t bring myself to root for the 49ers so Ravens and AFC it will be.

Ray Lewis is NOT a murderer. He pled guilty to obstruction of justice, and hasn’t had so much as a parking ticket since. He’s a fantastic player, teammate, leader and father. The city of Baltimore loves him.

The Ravens are a great team. Most of the players have foundations and spend their days off at homeless shelters and schools. When they hit a rough spot this season there was no finger pointing. They stuck together, worked hard and just won playoff games on the road against two of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game. (Can you guess who I’m rooting for?).

In all fairness, from what I understand Lewis is a reformed-in-heart-and-deed, changed-by-God ex-bad guy who has acknowledged his past evil and now tries to live a good and moral life helping kids, etc. So if you’re into the philosophy of second chances, that’s your team. He’s a character and supposedly a great player and this is his last chance to win the Super Bowl before retirement. But like Tebow, he’s not someone everyone likes or appreciates.

Since I also have no dog in the game, I am rooting for the 49ers because that Harbaugh brother used to coach my favorite college team and believed that smart kids could play good football. I’d like Stanford to get the indirect good press from his success!

poetgrl,

The Ravens used to be the Cleveland Browns. Owner Art Modell moved the team to Baltimore in 1996.

It’s all here:

[Baltimore Ravens - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Baltimore Ravens - Wikipedia)

Baltimore was without an NFL team since 1984 when the Colts moved to Indiana.

Uh, Ray Lewis IS a murderer. He pled out to turn on his accomplices. He was wearing the clothing covered with blood that “disappeared”. He also settled civil suits regarding his guilt by paying out $. OJ was “not guilty” too. Right…

Not to mention 6 children by 4 different women none of which he ever married.

It fine to root for your team but don’t wear blinders! I don’t have a dog in this fight BTW.

My dad grew up in SF back when it was a grittier city than Baltimore. He lived on a dirt road near the city dump. He and his father were at the first ever 49ers game in Kezar Stadium, which still standing in the middle of Golden Gate Park. He later worked as an usher in Kezar.

When the 49ers made their first Super Bowl, he took a bus out to Detroit to watch the game. Lifetime 49ers fans in our family, happy to have “our” team in the hunt.

I’m going Ravens, only because I grew up watching the Redskins and Baltimore is kind of like DC’s little brother. (If I couldn’t even muster that much of a reason I’d still go with them because they’re the underdog.)
