We are trying to plan a staff euchre party, and I’m not sure where to start. There are approximately 35 people on our staff, and spouses/significant others are invited. I don’t know how many will attend, and I know it’s important to have the right number of people to fill the tables. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We play cut throat when we have 3 players. Whoever calls trump plays against the other two players. Works just fine. I think you can also play one on one if needed but I 'd have to refresh on the rules.

We have played euchre with the kids since they were little.

Many people mid east coast have never heard of it.

Have fun!!!

Sportsmama, H and I love to play euchre and belong to a euchre group. Our host couple sends out an email about a week and a half or two weeks before and the first 8 or 12 who respond get to play. We limit it to a set number (divisible by 4, of course). There are also 6 handed games (many versions, you might look it up on line).

Good luck and have fun!

I’m from the East Coast and I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

So fun!! we used to play with other couples when we were young and the kids were little…also big time in college. Best to break into groups of 4 but the cut throat works if you end up with an uneven number or you could always rotate couples in and out. Have fun! You’ll just need enough tables/chairs and decks of cards! After that it’s all about the game and the conversation. We sometimes would “break up” couples which can be fun except if you play with your spouse you tend to get to know how they play which adds that dimension (good or bad LOL)

I am jealous. We played all the time in college.

Where do you get enough guys like that for a party? Do they all have falsetto voices?

sorghum…hahaha, Euchre can be very in your face
Lots of guys play it

We moved to philly and had to teach people how to play

It’s a card game, similar to “hearts”. Very popular in upper midwest ( think northern Illinois outside of Chicago, Wisconsin, Michigan…). Lots of guys play. At least where I grew up they did.

Our group is in Northern VA, almost everyone has a midwest “connection” (grew up/went to school there/married someone from there/lived there for awhile)

VH, don’t feel badly. I never heard of it either.

Played non-stop in my fraternity at U of Michigan.

One of the game’s finer points - Steal the Deal!

Ok, so when we played it involved a bit of beer drinking.

Happydad is occasionally roped into playing Euchre when we are visiting my family in Iowa. Usually he comes back from the bar with his head spinning from the combination of not understanding the game (his Cuban family plays nine-dot dominoes and Oh-Hell), not quite understanding the regional English, possibly a bit too much beer, and being forced to play with a gang of card sharps who’ve known each other since before they left their mothers’ wombs.

You are going to have so much fun, I wish I could be there!
