I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was 9 years old. I had also always kicked butt academically, graduating #3 in my HS and earning a 2240/2400 on the SAT (okay, some of you may think this is pathetic), but it’s not the worst score. I also got all 750-800 scores on the SAT 2 subject tests.
Statistics-wise, I have a 3.67 sGPA for MD, a 3.81 sGPA for DO, and a 3.83 cGPA. I did NOT go to an “easy” college, so I’m clearly not stupid. Yes, I did earn some B’s in STEM, but I’ve taken 3-4 STEM classes after college while working full-time and received an A+ in ALL of them with NO tutoring or help beyond just grinding. I am also naturally good at CARS.
Everyone in my extended family has an accomplished career, and 3 of them are in medicine, and the 3 others are in highly paid business or tech roles. I’m the only loser. and I’m worried I’m going to be a “failed to launch” story.
And don’t suggest other roles in healthcare. Medicine is the only career that would make me happy.
