I did a search here and it seems that this has not been discussed recently. I am in the market for a new dryer. The washer is still ok, so I’m just looking for a dryer. Our current one has developed a very annoying squeak and applying belt dressing did not solve the problem. Anyway, it’s old enough that based on average lifespans, it’s time for us to start looking anyway.

So, can anyone recommend an electric dryer? Also, any suggestions on how to get the best price?

There is a scratch and dent place near me, but to be honest, every time I’ve gone there looking for a deal on an appliance, I’ve always come up empty.

Those squeaks can be really annoying! I had a bad one on my last dryer. A service rep said it was because the drum was metal and would expand slightly when it got hot, causing it to squeak. I would purchase a dryer with the white non-metal drum. If you don’t opt for lots of bells and whistles (a multitude of cycles, push buttons, glass door, etc.), you can purchase a new dryer somewhere around $500.00.

The reason I have not had any success at the scratch and dent place is that their prices were completely unremarkable. I just didn’t see much of a discount at all.

I don’t know if it matters to you, but one variable I would think about if the washer itself was likely to need replacement before this new dryer’s life span ends, I would want to have the 2 appliances look okay together. That’s because I have a second floor laundry room- in a less conspicuous location, I wouldn’t care. Therefore, I’d have an idea of style/function/color/maybe brand in mind for the washer as well as the dryer. As some of the newer front loaders sit on raised drawers, it might be good to know if that’s the direction for the washer so things are closer to the same height.

I’d like to hear more about this topic as my washer and dryer are almost 20 years old and have been problem free. The time is near… They are making up for the 6 year old kitchen appliances we had to replace.

My washer and drier are in a closet behind doors, so I’m the only one that sees them. I have to consider size and how the door opens lest I run into trouble with the closet doors.

They currently do not match and it’s not important to me that they match. If they were out in the open, that would be another matter all together.

And since I’m inclined to stick with white, they’ll at least have the color in common.

Thanks for the link, bookreader. I’ll check it out. Good luck with your search. It does help to have color narrowed down and know your size limits.

While I had been thinking about getting a front loader washer although our current top loader is still working, now our dryer quit blowing air!
The heater still works, but H hasn’t looked at it yet to see if it is anything obvious.
Not a good time of year to do this as I cant even hang things up outside!
