Need Advice on D's World History Course & Prep Needed for SAT II World History

My daughter will be going to high school this coming year and will be taking Honors World Studies I.

Here is the course description for WSI :This survey course traces the development of civilizations throughout the world from prehistoric times through the 1700s. Students trace the similarities and differences in the development of major world civilizations as impacted by geography, politics, and economics.

For Honors WSI: This demanding course mirrors the curriculum of the World Studies 1 course. However, the material will be covered at a more in-depth and extensive level.

In tenth grade she will take Honors WS II: (Reg. WS Class description) - This survey course continues the study of world history from the 1700s to contemporary times. The growth of African, Latin American, Middle Eastern and Asian civilizations is interwoven with that of Europe, giving the students a truly global history.

Honors WS II description: This demanding course mirrors the curriculum of the World Studies 2 course. However, students will be expected to also demonstrate mastery of selected outside readings through both essay and oral exposition and analysis.

My question is this: Could it be that this course is enough prep to take the SAT II in World HIstory at the end of tenth grade?

Feedback is very much appreciated!!!

I would say probably. They are honors courses. I would buy a few review and practice tests books just to be sure though. If it looks like she knows/is familiar with most of the topics found in those books I’d say you are good. If all else fails and she takes the test and doesn’t get the score she wants, have her take it so that she has time to retake it before you need the scores to be sent anywhere. I took the SAT II chem test with one year of regular chem and 3 months of AP chem and I got 750, so I would assume that 2 years of honors history would be fine.

I mention that because I have read elsewhere that AP classes are generally the way to go when preparing for the SAT IIs. Sure, being in AP Spanish will make the SAT II Spanish test easier, etc. For me, the point we were at in AP Chem was still review from regular chem and I did fine on the test. So I found that the AP SAT II relationship was not really the way I had seen it described.

Good luck to you and your daughter, I hope she has a great time in HS

Thank you, Isaac. I appreciate you input. Wishing you the best of luck, as well. :)
