Hi, I’m thinking about transferring from UT Austin to another school…and I’m just a little stumped on what I might need to do more. My reasons for transferring are the big school size and party school atmosphere, and I’m not really a fan of sports. And really, I just want to give those top schools another try :)

My stats are
SAT: 2150 (CR:730, M:720, W:700)
SAT II: 790/760/700
HS GPA: 3.8
College GPA : 3.69 (I kinda messed up my first semester, but I got a 4.0 in the next one…and I’m hoping to keep it like this :D)
Major: Psychology (NOT pre-med)
ECs: I didn’t publish anything or get famous…I got a summer job teaching, have an internship/volunteering-sort of deal at a hospital this summer, trying to create this new student organization, and not much else.

Anyway, credit-wise, I’m a sophmore (although I’m entering my second year this fall), and I’ll probably be a junior (by credit) in the spring…is that a problem?

I was thinking of Brown, Columbia(got rejected tho), NYU, Northwestern, UPenn (got waitlisted), Cornell, UChicago, Johns Hopkins…and I’m a little stuck on what other schools to apply to. (not that I’ll apply to all these schools, but I just wanted to have some list before I start crossing them all out.)

Anyway, I prefer urban settings (NYC :D) than out in the country, although I don’t really need a big city. I like Austin, but I’m not really a big music fan, and it’s kind of hard to get around without a car.

The main problem I had with UT was the hugeness of everything - classes, etc. I was hoping for a more close-knit community, but I ended up in UT after lots of rejections. It’s not a BIG problem if I don’t transfer out, because I hear the upper-division classes are smaller, but I was hoping for a more smaller class size than I have now.
I guess I should be looking into liberal arts colleges, but I’m a little hesitant to transfer in my junior year to a LAC. I’m not shy, but while everyone else has known each other since their first year, I wouldn’t want to feel left out because I transferred.
Anyway, I’m not too keen on Cornell either, because it’s also a big school from what I hear, but my parents want me to try for the “prestige.” (which is also one of the personal reasons I’m transferring.)

Cost…not really a problem at the moment, and I don’t mind any atmosphere (or weather :D) I was raised conservative but I like to think of myself on the liberal side :)

I guess getting good recs and good GPA is the biggest thing I should worry about, right?

Could anyone give me any advice? It would be great if you could also list some more schools…or even “chance” me
(I’m not sure what schools would be matches…argh.)
Also, do you think I need to take the SAT again? bleh!

Thanks!
