<p>Indianapolis airport-I arrive 5 hours before D’s flight. I can sit and read or I thought I might pick up the rental early and go explore or shop. I don’t want to do a ton of driving. Is there something nearby the airport. Mall? Target?</p>
<p>The Indianapolis airport is a fair ways out of the city; however, you can get into the city centre with about 20 or so minutes of driving, sometimes less, depending on traffic. Would that be too much driving for you?</p>
<p>Is there anything out near the airport? I just realized that although I have 5 hours I don’t quite have that much since I have to pick up the rental. Also I arrive at 3:30 and by the time I get the car and drive any museums will already be closing, 20 minutes is not too far.</p>
<p>The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is only a few minutes from the airport. It’s an absolutely spectacular collection of old cars (race cars and other).</p>
<p>If you arrive at 3:30, I think by the time you pick up the car rush hour will be starting. I don’t think I’d bother with the traffic getting to Indy downtown, if that’s what poster #2 was suggesting. Indy airport is fairly easy to get into/out of, but traffic downtown will be much more congested.</p>
<p>If you go out Hwy 40, west toward Plainfield, there will be plenty of Target/Kohl’s type shopping within ~10 minutes of the airport.</p>
