NEED ADVISE on SAT or ACT

I took the SAT in June and I got a 1650. Do you think that by October I could get to as high as a 2000 or is that far out of my reach? I can not afford classes but I’ve been studying on my own. Or should I focus on the ACT where I received a 27?

2000 isn’t out of your reach if you study well, but just focus on whichever one you think you can score better on.

Yes, of course you can move either of these scores. What are the section scores for your ACT? Is one section brining you down?

The reading comprehension is bringing me down

Reading comprehension, in my experience (not very vast, but I got an 800 in CR so perhaps it’s worth something), is all about practice. The SAT doesn’t work like normal people’s minds. What you need are old tests, so that you can get used to (as my dad puts it) “thinking like a test-taker”. Logic will only take you so far with the SAT- you need to know how the SAT expects you to think. The only way to do that is old practice tests. One is available on the College Board website, and there are a bunch in their official (but $30+ shipping) practice book. There’s also a website, hang on, I’ll dig it up… aha, here we go: http://magoosh.com/sat/2013/where-to-find-full-length-sat-practice-tests/ I did a lot of my SAT studying off that website. I’m using the official book in my retake, but I haven’t really started yet so I can’t tell you if anything but the practice tests are useful.
Practice is really your best friend. Only real tests, mind- fake ones aren’t going to get you anywhere. Use only old SATs. The important thing is to get your mind working the way the SAT expects it to work. Which is not the way anyone’s mind works.
Best of luck to you (and me  ) in October!
