Need an IRB

My school’s IRB is uselessly slow; I’m not sure they’re even going to respond to my e-mail at this point (I sent a reminder, too.)

I’m a psych student, and does anyone know an IRB that might work with me, despite being a student of another school?

I would try to work with a professor in your school and see if he/she can help speed the process.

I was… The IRB member I was contacting is also a professor.
And even if I find another professor - it’ll get back to this one anyway.

Professors are probably away or not focused on IRBs in the summer. You may have to wait for the fall semester to start.

I’d be fine with that, but he has apologized two or three times for taking so long. The last time, he told me that going forward it things would run more smoothly. Instead, things are going much worse. So, I don’t think it’s a matter of summer vs fall, but rather his being unreliable… I even sent a reminder email.

If you are a student, then you must have a faculty supervisor who has signed off on your IRB (at least that’s how it works at our school). Contact your faculty supervisor to alert him or her to the situation. The faculty member may be able to speak to the IRB chair regarding the proposal. I agree with @happy1 that some IRBs may not be functioning in the summer (for instance, at my school we are on 9 month contracts, so no one is being paid to work until late August).
