Need apt/room Woodcliff Lake (NY-NJ border)

DS (engineering student) will be working at 50 Tice Blvd in Woodcliff Lake NJ (NY-NJ border) for 3 months starting May 21. He needs a room/apt nearby. He does not have a car, but hopes to walk, take a taxi or get a ride to/from work from co-workers. Anyone with contacts in the area? Suggestions? Have already tried Craigslist and trying to get employer to help. This is the first year they have an intern at this site.

Very, very suburban…oy…
My best advice is to ask co -workers where he should rent a room in a house…

Public transportation will prob be of the bus category…

I will research and get back to you…

Interesting. In the mid 80s I worked for a software development company in that very building…I see they are still there.

bumping to page 1

Used to live in the area, Woodcliff Lake is a pricey area,so housing costs will be steep…try nearby Park Ridge or perhaps even Ramsey…transit will also pose a problem…any questions, just ask…

You could look at pad mapper, which pulls from craigslist and other sources. Could he bring/get a bike to help with transportation? He could bike to the bus/train, then walk to work perhaps.

I never heard of padmapper. It look like a neat app.

Good luck, OP!

To answer your original question, when I worked there there was no public transportation at all, and no apartments close enough to walk or bike to work. A car was a necessity. I assume that more may have grown up around it since then…

Just did a google maps. Wow–what a difference!

Pad mapper is very cool.

Is there a YMCA nearby? Or a cheap motel? He may be able to get good weekly rates.

None I was able to find but thanks for the idea.

This is an upper class suburban area, so I doubt that you will find a cheap motel.

I noticed an Extended Stay America Hotel near Upper Saddle River/Ramsey area. Still you won’t walk to Woodcliff Lake from there. I plugged in an extended stay online, and it looks like they may be asking $89 per night, which is not what you are looking for! Perhaps you could call them and ask what they might be able to offer, or if they have any ideas.

I think that if you could rent something in Spring Valley NY, or Nanuet NY it would be cheaper, BUT I don’t think this would resolve the transportation issues.

Maybe he should contact HR to find out if there is any way that he can reach out to other interns? They are probably in the same predicament. Perhaps he could share expenses; rent, carpooling.

OP, your PM box is full. I emailed you.

Thanks. Just deleted a bunch

Thanks for your ideas. It is a 9 person office. The spot was created for him. He is the first intern in this location. i think i have a solution for one month at a reasonable rate. He will be better able to figure a solution for the remaining time once he is there. I appreciate your caring and interest.

denise - could you resend your PMs from today

Can he get an inexpensive rental car?
