Need Based FA is for people who have needs

Having received several PM about how to negotiate a FA package, I would like to tell all I know here. Please do not PM me anymore. I have answered some of you and have to say sorry to the others.

First of all, there is no tricks that could legally increase one’s need based FA. You have the means but just don’t want to pay that much is NOT a valid reason.

You must first find out if the school promises to meet 100% of your demonstrated need. If they do, then go ahead and DEMONSTRATE your need. I would like to think some methods of “demonstration” is better than the other. I have only done them successfully for both my kids. So I can’t say for certain my method will work for everyone.

Visit the school to talk to Counselor face to face. Be polite, be sincere, have a very clear proposal, and have solid evidences of your unmet needs.

There have been many others who know this process very well. Please provide your inputs here. For parents with younger kids, please understand the process first. Knowing how each school would handle FA before applying would be great.

I am done for the college admission. Thank you and good luck.
